My daughter is currently outside of Port Elizabeth with a group tracking elephants and darting rhinos . They will be finishing their assignment in about 3 weeks and have called me to look into possibly staying longer to explore some culture. I think the most reasonable alternative is to just move the dates of their return, keeping the same flights, from PLZ. So we are now looking for a fairly cheap sidetrip from there.
CPT is reasonable flight-wise, but the hotels are outrageous. We have been to CPT, and I don't know where I would feel comfortable planting 12 girls (all but my daughter have never been to any of Africa before) other than the waterfront area. The hotels there seem to want double occ at most and at prices these college kids can't afford. Do you have any suggestions for decent lodging anywhere in CPT (even an area) at a student's budget?
They were also asking about Mauritius (blah I think) and Madagascar.. I think both of these were just popped out of their heads with no ideas where else to go. I suggested Victoria Falls, but I think that may be over their price range as well.
I have limited contact with them (about once per week) and would love to have some suggestions for their next call. If there is nothing doable on CPT (my obvious first choice), do any of you have any ideas for another sidetrip from PLZ? They want to explore more of the culture, history, and people; not so much the flora and fauna.... Thanks for any help you can give!!!
