First I guess US still charge 5$ for the head phone? If so, good job US!
Of course I am thinking of bringing my own noise canceling earbuds with me.
My question is would they work?
In flight ear phones has 2 connectors, and normal ones only got one.
My guess is that normal ones work just fine, or worst case one will only hear sound on one side.
Thanks

Hi again,
US does indeed charge for $5 USD for headphones. However if you use your own sound will be out of only one side. If you buy them from US you can keep them and use them on any other US flight or anyother airlines that have two-prong connectors.

Why not just buy an airplane adapter? $3-$5 at Radio Shack, or online.

Exactly. Or $6 at the airport!
It looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-190395-Airline-Adapter/dp/B00083LFW6/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-1701286-8544012?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1192183406&sr=8-1

It depends on the plane. The old AWA planes have only 1 prong plugs.

Several of the noise canceling headphones (at least Sony and Bose and some Phillips models) are sold with airplane adapters. You may want to double check you box if you still have it.
Also, the in-flight audio options are fairly limited. If you have an MP-3 player, you may want to take that along.

Not just limited in options, many of the flights don't even have them. Simetimes, they don't turn it on even though the video is on (that cranium game thingy). MP-3 player or some other personal AV device is a good idea if you don't like to read/sleep/work.

767s have both the two plug on the front of the arm rest and a one plug ( two channel ) on the side near the controls. Do not know about others.

I brought my old US ones that was basically only used on 1 return flight before. They were as crap as I remebered it. Therefore I bought 1 new set from US, which was not nice, however OK. Still I think it is a rip of to charge for them.
Thinking about getting the adapter.
But in economy the jacks seems to be so used that I am wondering if one ever get rid of crackeling noise from bad a jack.
On my flight at least 2 seats for my family had so bad jacks that we just gave up and saw the movie with out sound.
I can't recall having this bad problems on LH 340 and 747 planes, but the UA plane to Hawaii was even worse that the US one.

Yeah, I mirror everyone else. The headsets are dual use so that they fit in either ac type. I don't know about west ac, but if you get an adapter and use a very good quailty headset, the IE will be much more enjoyable. The headsets we sell are pretty cheap....SHOCKING I know!:p

Alot of things causes the crackling of not operational of the jacks. More than anything, make sure you let the f/a's know exactly what the problem is. If I'm not informed, I can't write it up to be repaired. Having said that, too many time age of ac has alot to do with this. You can just imagine what would happen to your own entertainment system if it was be rattled around 5-10 times a day. Also, the small box under the seats houses the wires. Sometimes a customer will accidentally kick the box open and the wires get messed up.
Now don't laugh at me, but US is planning this winter to experiment with a new system that is lighter and takes up less room. Of course winter could mean summer, but thats the plan. The system will include about what JB and VA offer. Not sure if they will have live TV but supposedly the system will have the capability. We'll see.
