View Full Version : Best way to keep my CP status

Now I know a lot of you fellow CP's will say” why would you want to" But I have enjoyed being CP and haven’t missed an upgrade all year. I travel exclusively to cities best served by US. Especially my 3 trips a month from FLL to DCA and back.

I should come in at about 82-87k this year and was wondering the best way to keep my status.

The major thing that is playing against me is that US granted me CP from Plat (via trial - I used to fly only on UA and came over to US at the begining of the year) because of the pace of my travel and then I did not hit the
100k mark.

Is is too late for me to use the CC promotion because I won’t spend 25k in charges before the end of the year.

Any ideas and what you think the cost would be to me?

Thanks

Thanksgiving in Frankfurt? :)

There are some well-priced Z fares (discount Envoy/Business) in that time frame, e.g. FLL-FRA for $2,045 all-in, and less when originating from other cities.

FLL-PHL/CLT-FRA roundtrip yields around 10,000 EQMs, and counting the 50% Class of Service (COS) bonus when flying paid Envoy would give you around 15,000 EQMs.

Quick website glance shows some of the outbound routings are on Lufthansa in Business...that's great, but I'm not sure whether a Z fare on Lufthansa would qualify for the same 50% COS bonus that paid Envoy provides...

There are also some good fares from CLT to London. For the $2,000 mentioned above, you can fly almost four times between CLT and Frankfurt so if you need 13k miles you could conceivably cram in two trips to Frankfurt or London or mix and match whatever and hit it for around $1k in coach...no upgrade of course and assuming you have the time to do the flights.

Great piece of advice. Yeah, a MR is probably going to be your best bet so, either browse the MR forum or watch the US web page for fare sales.

If your a gambler, there's always a good chance US will run some kind of promotion by year's end, but whether it will qualify for EQMs is the question.

Thanks for the great info. I appreciate all the help. I can always count on the smart people on FT to help out. However after US screwed me the way they did yesterday I may not care about being a CP any more. See my thread called "US just screwed another CP and doesn't even care"

If you would be willing to waste a few hours and maybe two or three days, then here is how I worked out a mileage run recently, which I appended to a legitimate business trip to London and Amsterdam. I went looking for an odd itinerary that would not cost me much, but would max out my miles, and here is what I put together: DAY 1 - Leaving from my homebase of Fort Lauderdale to Charlotte, then out to Houston, back to Charlotte, and up to DC for a quick sleep the night before my international flight (FLL-CLT/CLT-IAH/IAH-CLT/CLT-DCA); DAY 2 - The next morning I got to DCA early again, and hopped an express flight to Philadelphia, then did a run to Chicago, and back to Charlotte, arriving a few hours before my London flight (DCA-PHL/PHL-ORD/ORD-CLT/CLT-LGW); DAY 3 (of the ticket, 16 of the trip) - Returning from Amsterdam to Philadelphia, then to Raleigh/Durham, then to Charlotte, then to Baltimore, where I picked up a rental car for a planned two night stay in DC (AMS-PHL/PHL-RDU/RDU-CLT/CLT-BWI); DAY 4 - Early departure from DCA back to Raleigh/Durham, then to Charlotte, and that Houston round turn again (why Houston is cheap, I do not know), and finally back home from Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale (DCA-RDU/RDU-CLT/CLT-IAH/IAH-CLT/CLT-FLL).

Notes:
Total flying cost of $1,599.66 (DAYS 1 & 4 on one ticket $605.10, DAYS 2 & 3 on another ticket $994.56, since maximum segments per ticket is nine);
Total tier miles earned 17,404, Total segments 17;
Total cost per tier mile earned $0.092 (9.2 cents per mile);
Be prepared for a couple of odd looks and questions from flight crews who wonder why you are round tripping with them on flights like I did to Houston, and even PHL-ORD-CLT (same crew), none of who, believe it or not, had ever heard of a mileage run;
Keep in mind that maximum number of segments on a checked bag tag is three, so you may need to go out through security and collect your baggage, go back to the ticket counter to recheckin, and go back through security.

Let me know if you should have any questions. Have fun and happy miling!

Dude your a machine. HOnestly I would rather kick myself in the balls then do that. If I needed 17k miles I could just spend 850 dollars on FTD or pay my way back to status (which the determine the cost at .05 a mile)

There are easier and cheaper ways to get 17k EQM then all that. This forum explains a bunch of them.

You missed the point entirely! I was going to Europe on a business trip anyway! So, the day of travel to Europe and the day coming back are wasted anyway, so what the heck?

I was offered the buy status deal for $1,600 or $1,800 last year when I lost CP, and I said no. I just could not stomach the idea of it!

Not to be overly pedantic, but as this trip has a purpose beyond accruing milage, it was not a mileage run stictly speeking. Last year I flew BOS-DCA-FLL *STOP* FLL-CLT-SFO *STOP* SFO-PHX-LIH-HNL *STOP* HNL-OOG-PHX-YVR *STOP* SEA-LAS-BOS for about $1500. Hoping to do something like this again before the end of the year

I just tagged them together for convenience and cheapness.
