Starting the second week of January both of the two daily flights from PIT to FLL are sold out in both coach and first for the remainder of the winter. This is the case on usairways.com and booking sites like Orbitz. Does this mean these flights might be pulled soon?

Considering the fact that not enough high yield business travelers fly this route, my money is on "yes." :D

I am in PIT this week for a conference. I have seen several USA 3000 billboards around the city advertising new/additional flights PIT-FLL beginning this December.

Indeed, bye bye US PIT-FLL!

FL just announced additional flights to FLL from PIT starting early 2008.

Part of the overall diminishing US PIT presence . . .

The true LCC's are moving in.

According to the original press release about the cutbacks, PIT-FLL was to be reduced to once daily non-stop but still mainline.

USA 3000 and Airtran also fly this route, and AA flies N/S to Miami-so there is no shortage of daily N/S on this route though, I agree, US is clearly ceding ground to the LCC's.

Incidentally, if you want to get to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area there are five (5) carriers who fly direct from PIT (US,Airtran,Southwest, USA 3000, and Myrtle Beach Direct) to Orlando three (3) carriers: (US, Southwest, Airtran) There is also direct service to Ft. Myers (Airtran, USA 3000).

USA 3000, Southwest, Jetblue, Spirit and Airtran are cleaning up the Florida routes from many cities. Leisure routes such as Florida, Las Vegas and Cancun will eventually be virtually the sole domain of the LCCs. It seems only they can make it work at the low fares offered on these routes in the industry's current economic climate.

They are still selling return flights on that route. Also, I can't seem to find any of the other cutbacks yet, for instance they are still selling tickets PIT-DEN.

Why is it that there are still return flights from FLL to PIT available? This is pretty mysterious! What kind of airline sells flights between two cities in only one direction? Weird!
