View Full Version : Another "best" beach question -- Koh Tao, Khao Lok, Ya Noi??

We will be traveling to Thailand/Cambodia in early June, spending time in BKK, Chang Rai and Seam Riep before ending at the beach. We are looking for a fabulous stretch of beach, quiet with no vendors etc and not on a strip with lots of other resorts. We are looking at the Aleenta at Phang Nga, the Evason at Ya Noi (if we can get a low season rate) or the Meridien in Khao Lok (bigger than I would like but we would take a villa) even though the weather may be less than ideal because we would like access to some areas for climbing. On the other hand Koh Tao looks like it has great beaches but not very luxurious accomodation. We don't really want to split out time (six nights) because that would waste too much time on travel.

The key is really a beautiful, quiet beach. As an example, we are spoiled with repeat visits to the Bitter End Yacht Club in the BVI and the ability to take out a boat and visit remote islands with white sand beaches. Soooo, best small resort on a fabulous stretch of beach in Thailand in June. What is your vote??

Thanks in advance.

You are very limited when it comes to quality accommodation on Koh Tao, it is very much for diving, some of the sandy areas are not that good.
The Meridien at Khao lak from your choices I would say would be by far the best, the Aleenta is quite remote. There are quite a few options in the Khao Lak area.

One of the best things about the Meriden in Khao Lak is the lack of other resorts in the area. You could walk 2-3 km north and not see any kind of development.

At that time of year, it should be uncrowded.

I think you should try for Evason Yao Noi. It is in a stunning place and should be great. I would not recommend Khao Lak. There are some nice boutique places around Krabi and Phi Phi.

We have added The Racha on koh raya to the list despite some mixed reviews regarding service. It checks quite a few boxes: separate villas, protected white sand beach in a cove, secluded but with access to another beach (with less expensive restaurants and massages) only a five minute walk away and bicycles available for exploring the rest of the island. The beach area looks nicer than Aleenta and allos us other areas to explore without having to rent a car which I feel we would have to do if we go to the Aleenta.
If anyone has any recent experiences at the Racha, please post or link.
