Hello,

I'm in the midst of planning my Honeymoon in Thailand - hence all the questions. Thanks to all for your prompt responses. It's been very helpful. I don't know what I'd do without FT sometimes!

Currently I have booked a few nights in Bangkok, a few nights in Phuket, and I'm looking to book 3 nights from 12/27-12/30 somewhere else near Phuket (I have tickets to go from HKT-BKK-HKG afterwards).

A friend recommended Phi Phi Island, but there are practically no accommodations left (yeah i know, I booked too late.)

Does anyone have any other recommendations? What other parts of Krabi might be nice to stay in - I'm looking for something beach-y/snorkleing-y.

Thanks!

railay beach is the most renowned part of the krabi mainland. it sits on a peninsula and can be reached only by boat. longtail boats can take u to small islands such as koh poda (within sight of the mainland) for snorkelling. it is possible to stay on koh poda, but it's not luxurious enough for honeymoon accommodation.

there are boats from phuket to ao nang, which is the busiest resort area of krabi, and to railay beach, which is a short distance from ao nang. the boat schedule is below.

I really liked Khao Lak. I've stayed at Le Meridien in Khao Lak, and it is a delightful place. Lots or reviews of it on the Starwood forum.

It's about 1+ hours drive north from Phuket airport. If you are feeling adventurous, I'd rent a car.

Ooh, that looks good - but ouchers, it's in the unaffordable range during the dates I'm there. :(

Ooh, that looks good - but ouchers, it's in the unaffordable range during the dates I'm there. :(There are other places in Railay besides Sawadee which are much more affordable, although not exactly luxurious. You should be able to get something for $150 per night which is fine.

How about Koh-Samui?

If you are referring to the price of Le Meridien ....

It is a great value during high season to use Satrwood points. 3K or 4K per night (if you have them)

There are also lots of other, less expensive hotels in Khao Lak. Here is just one site I pulled off of google:

prices at railay beach range from $16 (sixteen) to $680 (six hundred and eighty), so something there ought to suit ur budget! in the link that i provided, i forgot to mention that most of the accommodation is listed alphabetically under ao nang railay beach.

If you're looking for something snorkel-y, you can't beat the Similan Islands National Park tour offered by Poseidon Bungalows in Khao Lak (http://www.similantour.com/). It's a 3 day/2 night liveaboard trip, meals and snorkel gear are included. It's a fantastic value at 7400 THB (approximately 235 USD) per person. It's not a luxury boat, so if you're looking for Meridien-level accomodations you might be dissappointed. However, if you're looking for a snorkel trip, this is a far better deal than the 1 day excursions out of Phuket.

If I were you, I'd relax in Phuket for the extra time. You're already there.

Mistake on my honeymoon was trying to do too much.

As for a good getaway from Phuket... why not Singapore? ^ Quick to get to, on either Tiger, JetStar, or Silk Air. Great Hotels, food, shopping. A nice contrast to Thailand.
