Am planning to fly to BOM on AI in J. There is the flight from EWR via CDG to BOM, and the non-stop from JFK. Price differential is over $1K.
I believe the new non-stop has fully flat seats in J. How about 1-stop? Worth flying or crap in J?

I think you can buy J on the non-stop for approximately $300 more than the EWR-CDG-BOM flight. The non-stop is a new B777 with newer seating in J and I was told it is much better than the old product.

Anyone have experience with 777 in J vs. 747 in F?

Thanks.
Anyone have experience with 777 in J vs. 747 in F?My friend just flew it in J, and I laughed at him...
But he said that it was quite good, food was excellent, but they took too long to serve it, as they were too polite, etc. He was happy, as he is an NRI, so it was like "coming home".
However, my amusement was due to the frequent delays (that the direct flight shouldn't have) of AI that my family has experienced...
One aircraft was delayed recently by the 777 going mechanical, I understand...

They are still promoting this flight, so they are offering $50 credit for duty free items for each J pax. Also, free limo pick up and drop offs.

Yes, ONE flight was delayed significantly by an aircraft going tech.
AI has a 85% record of flights arriving within 60 minutes of schedule on the BOM-JFK route since service started in August.
DL who operates the same exact route at the same times of day from the exact same airports has a 65% record of flights arriving within 60 minutes of schedule during the same exact period, including 3 flight diversions.
But yeah, lets talk about the one AI flight that was delayed 20 hours...

Their record is *less* than stellar, in *my* experience, as well as in everyone else's experience...that's why I do not fly them!
(I do not fly DL either, fyi...)
How many times have you flown on AI, btw?

I believe that most of us here on FT for a while can tell you that B747-437B has flown AI more than most humans. ;)

Whoa! Hold on second, Sean. What is reason why the flights has been delayed for more than 20 hours? It's impossible what happened AI problems with mechanical failure the 777 aircraft. Do you even AI will flies nonstop from BOM-JFK still on payload restrictions, am I right?

I agree with SuperFlyBoy. My family used to fly AI in the 80's back when AI still had a great reputation amongst Asian carriers and the world actually. We haven't flown them since because they became terrible, and switched to BA, Lufthansa, Air France, Swiss and some other European carriers that went to India. But just last year, my mother flew 9W from LHR to BOM (connected in LHR from EWR on VS), before the EWR flight started, and she absolutely loved every minute of it. The entertainment was fantastic, the seats in Y not uncomfortable, the food vegetarian to her specificities, and best of all, flight attendants who were friendly and loved to talk. My mom likes to talk to the flight attendants and basically get their history. One of the best moments for her apparently was when the flight attendant went into Business class and brought her some Masala Chai since she wanted it and they didn't serve it in Y. She likened the service on par with CX, which is the airline I fly to Hong Kong. The flight on VS, however, awful. It seems they've been cutting back on customer service a lot too, despite what they advertise. All in all it was wonderful for her and she's ecstatic about the start of the EWR-BRU-BOM route. Although I admit I am curious about the new nonstop AI route and plane, I am not yet ready to try it based on the fact that AI's track record is against them, and I am sure a lot of other people feel the same.

I've flown about 1.5 million miles on AI over the last 30+ years, so I think I have a fair bit of experience flying with them over time. :p
That said, I'm not questioning your personal experiences with them nor anybody elses. However, you tried to call into question the dispatch reliability of the 777-200LR on the basis of a single incident. I just pointed out the fact that that single incident was indeed an isolated incident and statistically AI's dispatch reliability on the route is superior to its peers. Nothing more, nothing less.

WOW! That's is lot of miles. You will became million frequent flyer miles. I am impressive that meant you earned more miles on AI for a long time. How is possibility that you will became lifetime Silver, Gold or Platinum. Can you please clarify something for me about your program with AI?

Difference is over $1K now. Any idea how the EWR flight's J seats are? 744 right?

Look at some of the trip reports written by B747-437B and you will realise that the flights he took on AI were not eligible for miles ;)
