I noticed this information on another forum. Checked finnair.com and it shows that the last flights will be flown on 30th of september. It is is interesting that the Finnair pdf timetables updated on the 7th of September still show these flights in the winter period as well as next summer. It is really a pity because Nuremberg is such a nice city especially during the Advent period. I guess there will not be flights to Hanover either. Maybe it would have been possible to operate with a smaller plane like Finncomms ERJ145.

Sounds a bit odd, as Siemens and other major and medium size companies in the region have huge exports to China and India and a lot of projects and partners in Asia in general. Or are the planes desperately needed elsewhere?

My own guess is that the Embraer planes are just not good and comfortable enough for demanding customers. And perhaps the route is too thin for an Airbus.

IMO AY should have bought A318s instead of those cramped Brazilian minijets.

Absolutely agreed. It's no surprise if some(many) Biz pax ex-Asia/Europe go for other gateways than HEL (even with longer traveling time) if they have to take E170/190 for the connection in/out...

Also, HEL is far from the calmness it used to be so it's not that nice place to do transit anymore than it used to was, this can have an affect on transit traffic as well as Helsinki was praised for many years being a top airport in the world, definitely not the case anymore (especially during the rush hour at non-Schengen wing which most transit pax encounter there..) and even the lounges are way too small for todays' numbers.

As much as I agree that HEL is becoming very crowded and that the seat pitch on Embraers and Airbuses are not very comfprtable, I still don't see any indication of Finnairs Asian connections not being a success. In August the load factor increased from last August even though there was addition of two new Airbuses A340's (or three? When was the ex-Virgin A340 added to the fleet?). It would be be interesting to know how many frequent passengers there are on Finnair's Asian flights. I have understood that that there are quite one many one-time travellers from both Japan and China taking a group tour.

Still, a couple of months is quite a short time to prove that people from NUE did not like the Finnair product. Air France uses even smaller Embraers on the CDG-NUE leg. I think thios cancelation is just an indication of lack of demand from the NUE area.

It is funny how they give press releases almost a year before the inaugural the flights but don't do any press releases about negative news like this cancelation.

Lufthansa is offering NUE - FRA 7*daily if today is a norm day and even the short hop to MUC 5*daily. Plus the aforementioned connections to CGG, LX to ZRH, KL to AMS, SK to CPH. Seems like pretty steady flows to hubs.

Btw, does the Finnair flight really depart 6:30 pm every day? No wonder if connecting pax numbers are low.

The morning and afternoon flights are operated on alternate days. NUE would have been a great weekend destination from Helsinki but no chance with an afternoon departure from HEL on Saturdays and morning departure from NUE on Sunday mornings. Double daily flights would have been a must fro a success. Still, I would have predicted that Gdansk would go first. Perhaps there is some connecting traffic to JFK.

very sad to see finnair leaving NUE. but i was expecting that sooner or later. the strange mix of morning/evening flights did restrict lots of connections (e.g. NUE -> JAPAN flights were only possible two times per week - not the best precondition for business related travel that has to be flexible in some way).
