My husband and I have a reservation with Alitalia leaving from Pisa by code share flight operated by Air France. Neither of us have a seat assignment. We just have a reservation number. I didn't notice that we didn't have seats until I was looking over the email tonight. Should I waste my breath calling Alitalia? Should I call Air France to get more information? This is our first trip abroad, and I would like to settle things as much as I can before we leave the country in a month. Thanks for your help.

Usually European Airlines don't assign seating until day of departure. When you check-in they will assign your seats.

Others can elaborate.

Thanks so much for your reply. I was very concerned when I noticed the lack of seat assignments. I noticed the same on our Lufthansa flight. I was thinking of calling them, but I no longer think that's a good idea.

I have an upcoming trip with 5 sectors - on the intercontinental (long haul) flights, seats have been allocated.

On the European flights (LHR-FCO, FCO-MXP, MXO-LHR) no seat numbers.

Make sure you eat well, if you're in Economy you'll get something like this: http://www.hflight.net/blahdocs/uploads/p1010013_2451_8856.jpg

You can see a photo account of a London Rome flight here:

Sorry - As it's as far as MXP-LHR I thought you'd get the same kind of catering.

OP should definitely get something to eat then.

I flew Alitalia las year PHL to Rome. Didn't book the trip, my friend did. Shortly before the trip we noticed the lack of designated seat assignments. I had my friend call to get us assigned seats. Good thing as we got the last two together.

As a sidebar, wouldn't fly Alitalia again (I have the same feeling toward Delta). Awful....and that says something as I'm a US Air ff ...uuuf.

I have not flown Air France so hopefully they will be better.

However, do have fun!
