Hi All,
I have 3 hour lay over and wondered what the airport was like. Any must buys is probabaly what i'm really asking?

Think high-end shopping mall.
"must-buys?" Depends on what you're looking for... Maybe this will help:

BKK duty free is the most expensive I have ever come across. Prices are a good 10 to 20% above Paris/London prices and with the THB going up this is not getting any better.
There is little to no space for electronics or traditional Thai souvenirs.
Cigarettes are great value but limited choice.
Everything is packed into a very very long corridor and this makes the whole place feel rather cramped, the lounges are quite nice if you have access.
It shouldn't be an unpleasant layover but avoid waisting your money is my personal advice.

I will second the fact that there is little value in shopping at the airport. Even ICN is cheaper then BKK. But it's nice, some decent places to eat. Clean, comfortable, etc.... I'd spend more time getting a decent meal then looking to shop duty free.
Unfortunately, with only 3 hours you can't really risk running into town. That's 30 minutes minimum each way with the possibility of being stuck for hours depending on traffic.
