I requalified for Plat back in mid July and today I sent an email asking about my new membership card, which hasn't arrived (and I know from the past that AY is quick in sending out the card after (re)qualification) and also asked about those some 100k points that are still missing from this summer. I got the following answers:
1. They are currently having problems with printing out new membership cards and I was told that they will issue a temporary permit if the old card expires before new one is ready...another "technical" set back, it seems...
2. Missing points, I was told that they target to get the missing points posted by the end of September, also for other OW flights & 3rd party partners.

Another way to tackle this fiasco would of course have been hiring temporary staff to do the extra.manual work. But AY apparently chose to let the customers bear the brunt. Not nice, chief bean counter Hienonen.

I think the most elementary mistake they've made is not to have communicated on this with their FF's. Simply an e-mail from the Plus management to all tier members with some communication on what they are trying to do (if this was an improvement of sorts it would provide an incentive for us to have patience), what's gone wrong and when this is going to be fixed by.
Personally, I would've been much less annoyed by this

Online retro-registration of points has not worked either. Changing all my upcoming Finnair flights to Blue1 et al. for now. Reasons as stated in this (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=729383) thread.

One option is to switch to BAEC. But that doesn't solve those other problems highlighted in your thread earlier - such as the Embraer and so on. Although, Blue1 et al. has their faults also. But if you travel in business class most of the time then no worries then.
Just be careful about the SAS rules about through check-in and separate tickets if you do that kind of sport usually.

C-class is only an occasional treat for me as company dictates flying in Y. :(

I'd say next year will show the true skills of CEO Hienonen. Now costs and comfort have been cut and advertised as "eco friendly service improvements". HEL will also be getting more crowded with no improvement in sight until 2009. How will biz pax react in general?

Today I received my Plat requalification package, about two months late...there was no new membership card included but a A4 paper stating that I am entitled to OW Emerald perks even though I don't have a valid card...the paper is said to be valid for the next 3 months and I am supposed to carry it around for the next months, after old card expires...
This is a total joke..do they really think that a A4 piece of paper will stay in shape for 3 months in active use...I think I will start using my BA card for lounge access from now on. Also, sending the paper gift sertificate dated Aug 27th is kind of funny, I have ordered my gift already back in July and received it a month ago...
Anyway, this is just unbelievable stuff from AY in regard to their FF service.

I have enough problems with the genuine Plat card in OW non AY locations... All I can do is wish you the best of luck with this A4, perhaps you could laminate it ;)
Also, try putting it in the check-in kiosk at HEL (still assuming that the new Finavia machines accept AY plus as identification);)

Does this mean they also will post the miles flown on AY but being credited to OW partners like AA? I have about 7000 miles missing.

Tiki, how long have you been waiting for AY miles to post to AA? I flew AY (miles and points to AA) a couple of weeks ago to avoid LHR. While I have no complaints about AY service and price, I need the miles/points to requalify for OW Emerald this year. I am not sure how accommodating AA is about delays receiving miles from OW partners and am reconsidering flying my next few transatlantic J flights on AY.

Correct. All AY flights are posting perfectly to BAEC within 24 hours, once you do the online claim, which you can do after 7 days.

I was quite impressed to see how fast they processed the claim after I submitted it to BA.

Also the AY online retroactive crediting seems to be working again (after only 3 months inoperability - impressive? :D ). At least my missing points (over 3 weeks old) were credited within 24 hours.

Today they called me to tell that the new membership card had indeed arrived and, as usual, offered to deliver it in person. Against my previous habits I actually accepted it this time around as I thought it would be a good opportunity to discuss a bit about the current situation with AY Plus and Finnair in general. I'll post if anything interesting comes up..

Why don't you retroclaim them from AA? I have had so much trouble to get my AY flights to post automatically to BAEC but retroclaim works always and in 24 hours the miles are in my BAEC account.

It would be rally nice to know the inside story how this farce came into being. :p
My bet is that AY management tried to pinch a penny and as a result used badly paid, low quality staff/consultants to execute the "refurbishment". Then Murphy's law took effect and now they are hiring expensive IT specialists in panic to repair the carnage.

There was an article some time ago in Kauppalehti (Finnish Economy paper) but I cannot recall all the smaller details. I will try to summarize it however if it would give you some details.
Finnair noticed that their system is ancient and will need some renewal. They chose a new system from some quite big vendor who produces frequent traveller systems (sorry, cannot recall the name) but that vendor didn't have previous knowledge from airline business but only hotel business. Finnair accepted to be the pilot customer to also gain certain benefits and possibility to tailor the system for their needs. Finnair also chose a system vendor to handle the delivery project but that large company (and I think they mentioned one very large company in this case) later had to bail out because it wasn't going well (if I remember correctly it was hinted that Finnair had to find someone else). Finnair was presenting quite honestly that the project hadn't been progressing very well and they are very sorry about that but that can happen with the new products and this kind of large changes.

The name of this big IT company wouldn't start with an I, would it? Was the project heavily offshored?

Someone is always the first one. In everything. I am usually the first one if there is good food available. :D

 Yes ... :D
But of course eating is not my main business. And I am pretty quick on coming up with the backup plans in case something goes wrong. But usually I jump into the table pretty fast even if I do not know what's there. But then again, I am also the person who first pushes the button and then reads the label next to the button (what usually states that one should not push the button, oops). And my latest mobile phone was bought without seeing it, was just launched and was the first one sold from that store. It turned out to be the best mobile phone I have so far owned.
Agree, Finnair could have done it better with the new Plus Service and I am not at all angry with them as it doesn't affect me at all so it is easy for me to be here presenting the other side of the story.
Finnair has played their cards correctly in many sides, if I remember correctly they were the launch customer for the MD11 but they didn't accept the first planes but wanted to start accepting the planes from certain serial number onwards. And they are doing the same again with A350? But there is always someone who is the first one and they will face the possible problems. The first ones also usually get the sweet discounts.
