I have read numerous comments about the lack of under-seat storage in Virgin America First Class. I also read that some of the overhead bins in FC are "blocked out" for airline equipment. For me, the ability to get my (slightly) oversized rollerboard comfortably stowed is a major consideration in deciding which planes / airlines to fly. Given the apparently paltry space under the seats, is there ample overhead bin space in the First Class section to stow carry-ons?
Transcon, I carry a 24" Hartmann roller (a fairly standard, larger size roller) and it fit in the overhead without any difficulty at all. Also, interestingly, I was in the F bulkhead and had my briefcase under my feet throughout the boarding process. The FA came up to me and said, could you wedge your briefcase to the side of the seat for safety? I said sure. I noted that the space to your side when in the F window is pretty sizable...enough for a small briefcase to be "wedged" into....I also just really liked VX's willingness to sort of say, we are going to work with you to make this flight work to your satisfaction...not just follow a bunch of rules that don't make any common sense. It also helped that the FA was really cute!:D

You should have no trouble stowing a reasonable roll aboard in the overhead bin space whether in F or Y. It certainly shouldn't be a reason not to try VX. You'll love the seat, space and service.

I really appreciate your helpful replies. That's why I love flyertalk. It's such a useful way to share and get information for us frequent travelers!
I am going to give Virgin America a try.
Thank You.

On some of my transcons flts, I noticed that FAs had used up the limited overhead F spacebins for crew carryons. I was able to fit mine in but one of the other pax had to use the economy cabin's overhead bin.
It seemed to me that FAs should use the front of the economy cabin given the limited underseat storage in F.
