Hey folks

I'm staying at the Peninsula BKK in November '07.

Any suggestions for Travel agents that get good rates?

I met a couple from New York that got a $150 US rate per night last November.

The Virtuoso Travel agent rate did include a one way transfer and breakfast...A way better deal than going through Expedia...but it was still $250 a night (I Know...Still a great deal for the Peninsula!)

Any suggestions would be great!

I stayed a few weeks ago for the "promotional rate" of US$190, plus %17 tax and gratuity. We got a room on a low floor, and were very happy there. After checking all the "discount" sites, I found the rate on Peninsula's own page, called, asked for, and got that rate.

I doesn't help that the baht is over 10% stronger than it was in Nov. 06.

Then again, the baht has been weakening over the past couple of weeks.

We used agoda.com for the MO Chiang Mai and the Twinpalms Phuket and found that we could not match their rates elsewhere. Apparently they use local travel agents for the actual bookings, as the voucher we used at check in did not have Agoda on them, but rather a local travel service.

We did have some pre-departure issues that required that we deal with customer service. They were responsive and fairly easy to deal with, although understand that you will need to contact them first, then they will deal with the actual travel agent who then will have to deal with the hotel...

If you don't anticipate any changes to your travel plans, and the rates are good, you may want to consider using agoda.com.

The rate was soo good for us that we suspended our usual rule of booking directly with the hotel--I am convinced that one gets less consideration for upgrades when a hotel knows that you are dealing with a discounter. I suppose that this was proven by the fact that we were double upgraded at the Peninsula and MO BKK, where we booked directly, and "got what we paid for" at the other properties.

I used asiarooms.com last time. Their rates include tax and service charge. They often have some very attractive prices for hotels in Thailand.

Pen direct >
Oct $190
Nov $240

http://bangkok.peninsula.com/pbk/promotions.html

last i saw Virtuoso/FHR is discounted slightly below those rates. (plus it includes benefits)

best Virtuoso/FHR discount is DLX Suite (~$450 - ~$80 = ~$370)

Pen suite life ends in Oct as well, $275 for Grand DLX Suite
