I just moved to Virginia from California, and just found out that if I want to buy liquor, I have to pay a rather high price in a VA ABC store with a limited selection. Is there a good store in DC that I can buy a good bottle of single malt scotch?

There are several very big stores in DC that have just about everything. One which, at least, looks very low cost is Central Liquors, 917 F Street, NW Washington, DC 20004 phone: 202-737-2800. Conveniently located between the White House and the Capitol.

I recall that there are often big ads in the Washington Post with weekly specials on Thursday or Friday.

By the way, you are correct to believe that booze is much cheaper in D.C. I've been told it is to keep the politics happy.

I'm not an expert on Scotch by any stretch, but would suggest checking out Macarthur Beverage.

Cross the bridge and come to Montgomery County. Only county in the country that is a monopoly liquor retailer. And best prices anywhere on single malt scotch when it's on sale.

Lagavulin never goes on sale but at regular price--about $55--is better than any DC liquor store..
