I got the letter from Club MilleMiglia in reference to the "new enhanced" program which "starts" in 2008.
However, I do not fully understand what they want me to do in order to "prolongen" the validity of my miles.
One time they write that one needs to take two flight segments and another time they talk about two bookings
Is anyone familiar with the regulations? Maybe there is somebody in Italy with the text in Italian language?

I wish they would hurry up and announce some details of the new program... with the promise of one-way awards, I *might* be inclined to stick with AZ a while longer... if some decent redemption offerings don't materialize, I'll bail altogether. With the liquidation cloud overhead, I have had little interest in my points over on CC.

I'm speculating that the points will go over to the new airline.

Today rumors seem to be... Ali-France
So be proactive and do your homework studing the Flying Blue rules.
I presume AZ Millemiglia itself has no real idea of the new program. The new buyer or main shareholder could 'eat' the Millemiglia program.
The 2 flights in 1-2QTR 2007 promotion to 'roll over' your balance, could be just as a way to avoid flyers to start placing their flights on other ST FFPs.

It is a risk either way. Keep earning miles on AZ and the miles could be forfeited in the new frequent flyer program, under a worst case scenario of course!
Or it could be like what happened to KLM's program a few years back, where current miles were valued greater than new program and many travelers here benefited. :D
One way awards and Sky Team partner airlines- this really does sound like its going the way of Flying Blue. It is not clear what exactly will take place until early next year it seems, and the letter from Alitalia with a lot of text and few explanations did not help the matter. Does not seem like much benefit to fly AZ again until first half of 2008 I believe?!

So, Alitalia and Air France are going to Merge? Does this mean there will really not be an Italian airline?
Will the only way to go from the US to Italy non-stop will be on USA Airlines??

Will the only way to go from the US to Italy non-stop will be on USA Airlines??Everything is speculation at this point. For all we know Berlusconi and Richard Branson will team up and buy it.
(don't laugh- between the two of them they have the money, experience and connections to make a go of it.)

Italian Unions hate Berlusconi soooooo much that they would go on strike for 300days only at the announcement of such a deal...

erm... may I ask what are you saying?
I don't Think Berlusconi had or has any plan to buy Alitalia.... hey, we are talking about a semi-failed carrier!
When he was the premier, the finance Ministry chief, MR. Tremonti publicly said Alitalia had to fail!
Consequently i woud be more cautious before telling Berlusconin could team up with Branson.

erm... may I ask what are you saying? I was just humorously pointing out that everything is speculation.
I know there is a lot of consideration and negotiation going on behind closed doors, but unfortunately nothing solid in the way of public information.

Two flights means for example Milan-Rom and Rom-Milan. right? Does anyone have doubts on this?

I dont agree with you guys, I fly Alitalia for the service and safety. I read the new millemiglia I find that almost similar to LH, paid more get more miles. See be a FF is not a comunist thing, you need money to be in the lounge or have benefits, no money no pleasure.
Lets fly Alitalia.
