I'm visiting August 13,14,15,16 and would appreciate advice on finding a game, workout or booking a pro to hit with. Male, NTRP 3.5 if that means anything. Staying centrally.

I understand the Thais have gone mad over tennis since Paradorn Srichipan (SP?) has been playing the international circuits.

The played tennis at The Peninsula. They can match you with a tennis instructor who can hit with you. That's what I did. The rates were very reasonable. The courts are hard. There are also courts at The Oriental, but I think it's synthetic grass.

If you are staying in the Sukhumvit area, their are courts at the Conrad. You generally need to give them advance notice if you want somebody to hit with.

There are a couple of hard courts at the Park President on Sukumvit Soi 24 where they can match you with an instructor.
They also have little mini tournaments for the residents and the Capitol Club is a nice sports club with good equipment and a nice sauna/jaccusi. Daytime is the quietest time to visit..

Aree Golf Driving range on Sukhumvit Soi 26 (near Carrefour at the corner of Soi 26 and Rama IV) has a couple of tennis courts (http://maps.google.com/maps?near=13.720979,+100.569416) where the expats play regularly. I can't remember what the rates were but they were a lot more reasonable than any of the hotel courts.

I only have the number of the golf pro (0-2259-8425), but he speaks good english and I'm sure he can set you up with a tennis pro.

Don't know where on Sukhumvit you are, but there used to be very large and very well maintained tennis complex on Soi 31. Also other smaller complexes on sois just off Sukhumvit. Your relatives should know other residents who may be aware of good places.

Bumping this thread. I'm in Bangkok through the 2nd. I may have a contact at the British Club and access to another tennis court. Any tennis players in town please PM me.

I also brought two frames to string. 100BT for labor. Gotta love it!
