So about a month ago I booked a LAS-SFO-LAS for next weekend. Today I just go on to take a look and see how full the flights are (I might need to fly back a little earlier). Well, I check my itinerary and seat assignments...flights are crowded but still have seats.
Then I did a fake booking and looked at the schedule view (to see chances of F upgrades) and most of the flights are all sold out both ways (including some in FC). What's going on next weekend in SFO that everyone is flying up there and back for?

Don't know what days "next weekend" means, but LAS-SFO on the 18th and SFO-LAS on the 19th shows most flights have seats open in both coach and F/C according to the employee travel site.

I guess I should have made that a bit clearer...
LAS-SFO 8/17 and SFO-LAS 8/19, both dates, especially the 17th are showing a lot of sold out flights (nonstops).

I have seen the same thing LAX to PHL the same week. Not many options.

After the flight #, dep-arr city, and times, the numbers are:
seats installed-booking limit-seats available-nonrev passengers booked (a set of numbers for each cabin)
So the 3rd number in each cabin (in red) is the number of empty seats.

Thanks for the info...looks like we are gonna be getting cozy on that flight! I'm not even gonna keep my hopes up for an upgrade on the outbound. Its only an 1hr 15 min flight anyway...I'll manage.

You're more than welcome, and I owe you an apology - you had the dates in the thread title and I completely missed them....

Don't forget that you can always stop by LAS at 430am and do confirmed same day standby for any flight with F availability. I have never tried doing this at midnight, but it might even be possible at the ticket counter right when the last of the night flights depart.

As luck would have it I ended up getting the upgrade on the 8/17 LAS-SFO 6:32p afterall. I was pretty suprised to get the email saying it was confirmed considering how packed its looking. Now the next hurdle is making sure its on-time, which wii all know is part of the "fun" of travelling through SFO.

haiderodes,
I'll be on the flight with you on Friday, from LAS -> SFO. I'm in seat 2C. I'll only be in San Francisco for 24 hours, coming back on Saturday, so I won't see you on Sunday.

Not exactly! The available seats DO NOT reflect the oversell. This means that the flight is already sold out and they airline can sell that many more tickets. Another thing to think about: With the nonstops from the East Coast being so full, US Airways is routing people to the West Coast via PHX and LAS. The flights become even fuller during the day of travel because passengers from PHL bust their connections. Not fun.

...or maybe there's a convention going on in LAS.

Cisco Systems is having their world sales meeting there this week... Tuesday-Friday. 15,000 sales reps, plus many other employees. That would probably explain it.

That seems very realistic. The last couple of times I have flown through LAS at night have been rediculous on the A/B gate side...almost as bad as the Sunday rush. Luckily I've been pretty good with the upgrades so I bypass that mess usually.

Even without an upgrade, a US Silver can use the A/B elite line. Flash your elite card or if it prints silver on your bp, you are good to go.
