Finnair has ordered a comprehensive modification of all its 20 Embraer passenger planes following a number of incidents involving the craft.

The airline's deputy CEO Henrik Arlen said the Embraer fleet would undergo the modification package in order to ensure similar faults did not recur in the future.

In one incident, in February 2006, a break circuit jammed on a E-170 during a flight from Warsaw to Helsinki causing damage to undercarriage wheels.

After an inquiry into the incident, Finnish officials sent brake system modification proposals to the manufacturer.

Minor faults in the Embraer fleet have caused more cancellations than Finnair's other craft. For this reason, a greater supply of spare parts has been obtained from the Brazilian manufacturer.

Finnair has ordered a total of 20 Embraer E-170 or E-190 aircraft. They are used primarily for short-haul flights.

although rather surprisingly, I have actually developed a liking for the E190, so I am hoping that Embrarer/AY can sort this out without any great fuss. I used to be a firm believer of 'the bigger, the better' but I do think E190 is a great plane for some of the AY intra-Europe routes. It can even do an OK business experience, given the lenght of time you are likely to have to enjoy/endure it.

I agree also that I've started to like them. I even had it once on the HEL-GVA-HEL route. I just hope they could serve the warm dinner on the longer Embraer routes and not just the boxed snack.

We flew AY C class MAN-HEL on an E190 a while ago and we definitely had a warm dinner (excellent fish) on that flight.

On the Embraers the single oven is used for J pax meals only. Back of the bus gets a cold meal.
