This promotion has been posted on the DL Forum for a while Here (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=718779), but i wanted to get a MR view of it.

DL is offering double Flown miles on all flights purchased on Delta.com that are purchased with an American Express. After reading thru the (vague) T&Cs, it looks like a itinerary that books 5,000 miles would now give 10,000. Obviously, this doesn't help with MQM, but it effectively cuts any CPM calculation in half (3 cpm becomes 1.5).

Is there something I'm missing? On the DL forum, you would think that this is yet another boring promo from the number of replies. In my mind, it seems like a great opportunity to take an MR and make it even more effective.

Would an elite then get
base miles
base miles + elite bonus
bonus miles

using the 5K example, would you get?

5000+5000 (100% elite bonus)+5000 double bonus + whatever it is for booking on DL.com? or a little over 15K?

That's my understanding of it, from reading the T&C.

and made me rethink focusing my MRs back to DL

Sadly it still remains a dream as I was unable to book the IAH-MSY A fare MR for the dates/times that that worked best for me.

Given the limited T&C's I've seen I have to concur w/your calc. However, DL has been known to post lengthier T&C's AFTER the start of a promo

One possible warning, I emailed a CSR asking if the promo was valid for ticket bought w/ BOTH an AMEX and an DL Voucher. Their reply was not crystal clear but seemed like a "no".

Finally, another possible pro is that since ANY Amex card can be used, you should also get 5% discount on purchase price if bought w/ a Gold Biz card or double miles if bought with DL Skymiles AMEX.

A generic gold (or platinum) business Amex will earn a 3% rebate. Only the Delta Gold (or platinum) business Amex gets a 5% rebate (plus 2 Skymiles per dollar).

Ohhhhh yeah... This offer was available back in the fall of 2005. Same principle: buy your DL flights on Delta.com using your Amex and get double miles from AMEX.

Being a Gold at the time, on a SAN-ATL-PVD run, my mileage breakdown would be something like this:

~5,250 base miles (EQM's)
~5,250 Gold status bonus miles
~5,250 AMEX bonus miles

TOTAL: 15,750 miles for about 198 USD.

The AMEX miles posted about 3-4 weeks after the flight took place.
