Doing a mother-daughter trip to NYC and leaving this fri. for 6 nights. Wondering if there is something we can do (or she can do) that would be a little different/fun/interesting than the usual touristy stuff (that we will be doing!). All suggestions will be appreciated! TIA

If it's your first visit and neither of you has been here before then I guess everything is "different". If you and your daughter have visited here before, we'd need to know what you've already seen to advise.
In generalities, I'd suggest walking a lot and enjoying the city and the nice weather.
Downtown - Little Italy, Chinatown, Soho, Meat-Packing District, Chelsea
Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge into DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights (then wander on Montegue Street)
Uptown - Central Park, Metropolitan Museum, then Madison Ave.
Honestly, don't know if any of these qualifies as "different", but I think that they're all fun.

Check out Serendipity (http://www.serendipity3.com/). It's a bit touristy, but also popular among locals and so worth it if either of you have sweet-tooths.
Go on an empty stomach for a late lunch and you won't need dinner. Portions of both entrees and desserts are massive.
PS. their frozen hot chocolate is not to be missed.

A little known fact is that Serendipity takes "limited reservations." Avoid the wait!

Thank you to everyone so far. I love all the ideas! This is my daughter's 1st trip (I've been a few times) and I'm trying to plan something a little different.

Lunch or afternoon tea at Alice's Tea Cup is lovely.
There's one near Bloomingdales (upper east side) and two on the upper west side.
It's a charming place with an Alice-in-Wonderland decor.
