Mrs Showbizguru has decided she wants to go to anywhere in the Caribbean in early December from New York.
Can anyone help with suitable suggestions for a DIY trip with a budget airline out of JFK to somewhere hot and then making it up as we go along.
Prefer to self-help rather than tailor-made.

Tobago is the more "laid-back" of the two. Hiking, birdwatching, beaches etc..

Around Christmas you'd get to hear parang music, sample Christmas delicacies like pastelles (sort of like steamed cornmeal pies) and sorrel (a drink made from the flower of the sorrel plant).

I can only presume that there are NO cheap ways of getting from New York to the Caribbean at that time of year.
Can anyone think of ANYWHERE via NY that's hot and cheap then ?

Maybe SJU and then onward to somewhere else?
