I know I probably have to just stick to being a regular AY Plus member for the next year, but 'cause I'm desperate I thought I'd ask you about your experiences.

I'm still 7500 points short from AY Silver when my requalifying period ends on August 31st. I'll fly to Narita on September 8th and back on September 23th. Had my requalifying period been 1 month longer, I would have silver for the next year as well. My card says that it's valid until Oct 07, but I understand that that doesn't mean that the requalifying period would last until that.

Have you had earlier any success contacting AY and asking for qualifying period extensions or anything like that?

I had the same situation last year. It seems like I lucked out because even before I had the time to contact AY, I got a nice letter saying that since I got so close to the limit, they'd give me Silver anyway.

Given this behavior, I would imagine it is very much worth your while to contact Finnair Plus and explain the situation (you can cite the examples of people getting Silver for getting close). My guess is that they will be flexible.

Thanks Thalassa for your answer. I will go for an unexpected business trip, so my points will be only 2200 short from silver after that. And since only 8 days after my qualification period I'll fly to NRT, I guess there could be some hope of convincing them...

Like Thallassa, I too got AY Silver renewed two years ago without actually meeting the point requirement.

However, to be on the safe side it might be good to send copies of already made bookings to the adequate AY Plus level staff. You never know where CRM software puts you...;)

My qualification period ended last week and now the Finnair Plus web site says that my Silver requalification period is from 1.9.2007 until 30.8.2008, so maybe this story had a happy ending? :)

I called them last week and explained the situation, and they promised to take it up with their supervisor. I haven't received a call or email from them since though...
