I'm new to the area and need to get a new bag. Typically I purchase stuff online, but I need to see the bag up close to make sure it will fit my needs.

Where are the good stores in DC for business travelers to purchase luggage? I've seen the store in Union Station - but was hoping there was one closer to NW DC.

Thanks in advance!

1-800-LUGGAGE.COM is headquartered on S. Pickett St. just east of Van Dorn St. in Alexandria. Amazing store, best selection, lowest prices anywhere.

My pick: TARGET. They had a good deal (a few bags in one big bag) for $70).

I like Marshalls. they have a huge collection of leftovers from offers in the airline catalogues. I have a matched set of AA (not colors) bags that are of very high quality. They tend to have very few black bags.

I bought a bag at Target in FEbruary. The handle broke before I even left the country. Never, again. You definitely get what you pay for. :td::td::td:

Have you thought about going over to Costco at the Pentagon City Metro stop and just buying something there? I had friends out from Australia last month and one of the stops on their list was Costco with me, and they picked up a 3 piece Samsonite set there.

I just called 1-800-LUGGAGE and they have closed their Alexandria store. They still have a store at/near White Flint Mall.

FWIW - The Costco Kirkland 22" rollaboard bag was very well rated by Consumer Reports. I checked it out but found it a bit large for my tastes (I prefer a Euro sized 20" bag).

thanks for all of the suggestions - i was at pentagon city today and Macy's is selling most of their luggage for 50% off, so I picked up a Tumi 22" for $175.

If anyone else is looking for new luggage, I'd recommend stopping by to take advantage of the great deals.

50% off Tumi? Until when?

I am not sure the duration of the deal - inventory was very spotty though. I had to take home one of the display items.

I frequently get my luggage at that Macy's. They're almost always having a sale on something. There's also a luggage store in the Pentagon City mall. Suitcases tend to be more expensive than Macy's (same brands), but they have a bigger high end selection, and more travel gadgets.

Additionally, right downtown there's a macy's at 12th and H (NW) or right near there that also has a pretty decent luggage selection. Its RIGHT at a metro stop, but parking is a bit hard during the day.

Costco also sells a 20" version of the rollaboard for $89, but it is only available online.

Just got one for a family member, and it seems to be a well-made, reasonably-priced suitcase. Too soon to tell how well it will hold up to multiple baggage handlers, though.

Costco's luggage is pretty sturdy. Have one and it still looks great after many years, although the carryon is a tad on the heavy side. Another place to check out luggage is Homegoods and Ross as they carry many name brand luggage.

You want to go where?

Following up on the Costco suggestions, we have used Costco 22" for hauling around equipment for years. They are very durable but they are heavy for their size.
