This is a Canadian veterans' (originally naval) cemetery, but I think it fits the underlying theme, even if it's not Memorial Day here. This graveyard (God's Acre, Esquimalt) will have a candlelight memorial this year on May 31. Each grave/marker will have a candle left to burn throughout the night after the ceremony.

The above marker reminds me of how dangerous the old tall-masted warships were, even when not in battle.

24 years ago I was doing a little editing a granite wall.

A diamond after a name indicates deceased. A cross after a name indicates MIA. When an MIA is confirmed to be deceased the diamond needs to be superimposed over the cross. The original lettering was all photo etched, but the changes were hand carved.

Amazing what one learns from FT! Thanks! ^ Nice photo, too. :)
