I am constantly in search of better, more delicious protein shake options for use post-workout. Right now, I use a meal replacement packet from GNC (Mega MRP - 40g protein, 2g fat, 20g carbs, 260 calories) in cold water with a teaspoon of creatine (5g) added.

I workout during lunchtime at the office so a quick and easy shake like this is great. I am planning on shifting my workouts to after work so I could make a more elabortate shake at my apartment afterwards.

If anyone could share their protein shake recipes here I'd appreciate it!

Mods - sorry if this isn't the right place for this thread - please move if necessary.

I am no expert I just go by trial an error and read alot of mags.

this is mine. I sometimes use it as a breakfast shake some times as a post workout drink

2 bananas
handful of blueberries
3-4 strawberries
skim milk
scoop of protein powder(dymatize elite)
2 tablespoons of wheat germ
2 tablespoons of flaxseed
2 scoops of quaker oats(when i use this as a breakfast drink)

throw it in a blender. and blend. if you put in the oats blend it for an extra minute.

sometimes I leave out the blueberries and strawberries. or I leave out blueberries. those things are expensive but they have many antioxidants and nutrients. Frozen fruits work also.

sometimes I use soy milk instead of skim milk because sometimes thats all I have.

the banana is a must. it gives it texture.

It works for me. when you use it as a breakfast drink with the oats in it. I guarantee that wont be hungry until lunch. but you wont feel bloated and nasty either.

My 2 youngest boys would love to add some meat to their bones. My SIL, who majored in exercise science and nutrition, and runs a corporate health center, has made recommendations. I'll look tonight at what they're consuming. The last thing I need is extra calories, but they're close to adulthood and not > 125#.

Whey protein powder added to a mixture of milk and ice cream. Chocolate only. The thought of the Fruit Punch flavor just now brought on the dry heaves.

Optimum Nutrition's Fruit Punch flavored Whey is one of the best I've tried. I usually just mix it with skim milk.

My trainer has a new "cinamon roll" one that truly tastes like you're drinking an awesome, tasty Cinamon Roll. At first, it seemed like a gross idea, a "cinamon roll" flavored protein shake, but it was actually quite good...I'll check on the recipe the next time I see him.

You put raw oatmeal in your shake? Isn't it hard to get down?

I put it with some water in the microwave to soften it up before dumping it in the blender.

I grind the flax seeds with an electric coffee grinder before adding them to the blender to ensure they get broken up. If the seeds remain intact (unbroken) the good stuff--omega 3s, etc--doesn't get released.

Man this is so annoying, i just read an article where a top chef gave his recipe, one for pre work out, and one for post.

Post was something like, 2 egg whites, blueberries, skimmed milk, half teaspoon honey, and half a bannana.

I could well be mixing them up, but you can try it out for me while i try to find it!

This sounds like a bad recipe for a "post workout" shake. With only about 8 grams of protein from the two egg whites, plus what you get from the milk, that's not nearly enough for what your body needs to recover from a workout.

doesnt mixing whey protein and ice cream defeat the purpose of getting alot of protein without all the unhealthy stuff.

They're desperate to add pounds. They pack the food away and it doesn't stick. A little extra fat doesn't seem to matter. Oh to have a 16 year old metabolism again.

Im not sure if it comes in a more raw form but i use the quaker oats in the cylindrical cardboard tub

It goes down good. make sure to blend it for a minute or 2 longer than you normally would. and also use at least a 400 Watt blender.

The cardboard container of oats is as raw as you can get. I add a cup to my morning shake everyday. The shake I use is easy though.

One scoop vanilla protein powder
One cup Oatmeal
5 ice cubes
add whatever I have on hand for a liquid (skim milk, water, sugar free orange aid or 2 percent milk)

My favorite protein shake is:

1 heaping scoop of Jay Robb vanilla whey protein powder http://jayrobb.com/cat_proteinWheyVan12.asp
Half a serving of Sambazon acai http://www.sambazon.com/nutrition/frozenPure.jpg
2 or 3 cups of frozen berries (no sugar added) - strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, in whatever ratio i feel like
1 T of Udo's DHA blend http://www.udoerasmus.com/products/oil_blend_DHA_en.htm
6 oz water

And then i blend away until it is the consistency of a smooth, thick milkshake. I'm not sure how healthy it is (worry about the natural sugars in the berries), but it has a lot of protein and tastes so good i feel guilty eating it.

the health benefits of berries by far out weigh the negative affect of sugar in the fruits.

I've always tried to keep it simple.

One banana, two scoops of GNC vanilla whey protein which provides roughly 45-50 grams of fast acting protein, a scoop of glutamine powder (7-10 grams) because it is rapidly lost during training and quickly absorbed into hungry muscles.

I take my creatine separately as soon as the workout is finished. Sometimes i will go ahead and mix it with the protein shake.
