Is there any way to link to videos the way that we can link to photographs? Youtube allows both private uploads and embedded links, allowing the video to appear in, for example, a web forum thread without the forum site having to physically host the data.

I was thinking of sponsoring a video contest along the lines of Birdstrike's photo contest, but we'd need a simple way to link to the videos.

Interesting idea. I'm guessing that the folks at the HOM would need to put some kind of extension into the vBulletin software to let it take the EMBED tag.

If worse comes to worse, I can host the "entry page" on my website. It would be nice, though, if folks could click on a link right in FT and see the video.

Great idea!

If you just want to click on a link, that works today:

http://www.batnet.com/bogart/Baja-Dolphins/images/mov00259.mpg

I can't find a work-around to make it appear embedded.

Question: on the site you reference that allows display of embedded video, what happens if you have more than one video on a page? Specifically, what does the audio do?

This is beyond the scope of what I can decide on. Your best option is to ask the question in the suggestions forum, or to email/pm one of the admins at FT.

I like the idea of it, but it would need some moderation to be sure that the content isn't the kind of stuff we don't want here.

Specifically, what does the audio do?Youtube lets you embed code that displays a little playback window, just like on CNN (or, for that matter, Youtube). Nothing happens until you click play, then the video plays in place with the audio coming through the computer. When it's over, or if you click a different link while it's playing, it stops and the other one starts.

I'm in the middle of a huge move (new job, new city). I think I'd better think this through a little more before pursuing it with the FT Powers that Be.

It seems no more of an issue than with Trip Reports linked images in general. There are some controls in place for that already.

I should have thought of that. :( ;)

Hmm interesting idea. Would be nice to share videos. Looks like they would need a Youtube plugin for the board (Vbulletin) and thats it
