You know, like the ones you see advertised in photo mags like www.mentorseries.com or www.gapweb.com etc.

Wondering if anybody out there has gone on a traveling photography workshop like this and has experiences to relate. Did you get a lot out of it? Did you retain the information? Did you see a noticeable improvement in your photography? And of course, did you have a good time? ;)

Not entirely relevant, but I did take a guided photography tour of a slot canyon a couple of years ago. It was basically another portion of the infamous Antelope Canyon, but it's on private property.

Overland Canyon Tours (http://www.overlandcanyontours.com/Canyon_X/canyon_x.html)

For something in the low-$100 price range, I got transportation to/from the canyone from Page, AZ (~45-60 minute trip), lunch, and about 3-4 hours of time. The guide is a working pro, and he was a good resource. I ended up with some shots that I was pretty happy with - here's a few of them on pages 2 and 3 (http://ben-johnson.org/blog/v/Arizona/?g2_page=2).

I also lucked out on this trip that it was just my wife and I. Since my wife wasn't shooting, I got 1:1 attention from the photographer, but it looks like they cap the group size in here to 6.

The techniques for getting good shots in a slot aren't too hard to nail down, and when I went to Utah last month and visited a couple more slots, I knew when to go, what to look for, and nailed a few keepers, so I definitely retained what I learned.

Thanks! Gorgeous pics!!! I may try my hand at one of these tours at some point, if only to be with other travelers that aren't going to hurry me along before I get in all my shots! ;)

I'm headed here - http://www.collierworkshops.com/moabiten.htm - in a month. A relatively inexpensive, short time frame trip in an area I've always wanted to visit. I wasn't up for much more expensive, week-long trips, so this will serve as a trial. I'll report back when complete.

One of the best I took was through BookPassages in Corte Medera, CA (near San Francisco). It was coinciding with the Travel Writers Conference that I attended. Professional photographers, editors, etc. to give hints, suggestions, tips, etc. Highly recommend it.

I gotta look into those workshops. I heard Adobe has a nice one every so often. Usually I just learned about it all on the internet, but it only gives so much. I'll have to see into some of these workshops. The photos are very nice
