Hi,

I have a question before calling Alitalia, I recently bought some tickets in the Promo fare-class (Class-N precisely). I have flown the outbound, and due to some unexpected business trip, I need to change the inbound travel to another date. I checked through seatcounter.com and saw that N class is still fully open for the dates I want to change the ticket too.

The fare rules states that I cannot change the ticket after departure. I was just wondering how strict they are in such a situation? Can I just pay the 50 Euro change fee (as per rule for changing BEFORE departure) or do they follow exactly the rules that I cannot change the ticket at all.

Any experience or advise?

Thanks.

:)

Promo class fares have a $200 USD fee for changes. Interestingly enough, the fee is quoted in dollars even on the Italian language site when the fare is listed in Euro.

Supplemento per cambio di prenotazione: 200 USD.

If you need to make a change you should do it before- in European markets the change fee is usually €50... Alitalia is not very flexible (in my opinion) and generally takes a bureaucratic approach to these things...

That is the problem I am facing now, I have already flown the outbound, so I am wondering how lenient at they at letting me change the inbound with the 50 Euro change fee.

I think I will call them as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Alitalia is not very flexible (in my opinion) and generally takes a bureaucratic approach to these things...Yes, their internal systems make it a lot of work for them to change an e-ticket.

I just had a situation with one of these promo N fares where my outbound was overbooked in both cabins. I told the GA I'd volunteer for a bump to the next day IF they could also move my return a day later (so I'd have the same amount of time in Italy) AND give sufficient VDB compensation. She worked with the supervisor for a while, found a return availability, but the supervisor decided that they couldn't give any compensation. They way their system was set up, they were already compensating me the $200 change fee on the return, and running up lots of internal paperwork costs on the change, so they couldn't get permission for any other compensation. Needless to say, I turned it down and kept my original itinerary.

Considering that it was just two hours before flight time and they were overbooked by three paid in F and a number of people in Y, I'm sure whatever they ended up doing cost them more than it would have to VDB me.
