I couldn't find a thread on this by searching, but if there is one, please point me to it!

Anyway, when I lived in Champaign, IL, my roommate there, who was from RIC, got me hooked on sweet tea. Mmm...sweet sugar...mmm. I haven't found much good sweet tea at restaurants, so I was curious if anyone else has. My favorite has been the sweet tea at Don Murray's Seafood & BBQ in Raleigh, NC, but again, that's with a limited sample size. Where else?

Daisy May's BBQ in NYC has excellent sweet tea, served in glass mason jars. The restaurant is on 11th Avenue and 46th Street, but during the warmer months, they have street carts around the city.

Most anywhere in the South :)

Now, point me to a good place in California... that would be a trick and a half.

I like the sweet tea from McAlisters Deli (http://www.mcalistersdeli.com/) in the Carolinas (and maybe other places too). Mostly because their tea is not too sweet, but still gets the point across.

Another store to try is Teavana. It's a chain of stores (like Starbucks but much better) that sells over 100 kinds of tea.

I'm sure if you find a store in your neighborhood and ask about sweet teas they'll direct you to some nice ones.

There is a Flyertalker whose daughter works in a Teavana and introduced me to some very nice teas. Sometimes I want something more than just Pepsi ;)

Maybe not the best, since that can only be found on my front porch :D, but I'd vote for McAlister's as well. Plus it's an enormous serving with a sturdy plastic cup, so it travels well on the way back to the office or wherever.

My favorite sweet tea has been a simple bottle of cold herb tea which can be found in Chinese grocery stores.

For me, it's a tie between this (http://www.dormantbrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/mamak.png) and this (http://www.indianfoodsco.com/Recipes/beverageshot.htm).

The first one is found mainly in Malaysia and though it's just tea and condensed milk (with some palm oil in the condensed milk), it's the method of making it that's special. The latter depends on what spices you use.

Believe it or not, the best sweet tea I ever had was about 2 years ago in Knoxville, Tn at a Taco Bell "by the mall". We were on vacation; the girl who made it really pushed it and told me she makes excellent sweet tea. So I tried it and it was undoubtedly the best sweet tea!

Other notables: the pub in Beau Rivage (pre Katrina) Casino in Biloxi and McAllisters (Memphis and Winona, Ms (?? somewhere up there))

The fresh mint tea served nearly everywhere is to die for. And sweet enough to make your teeth itch.

And you can play parchis (at hyperspeed) with the locals whilst you drink too.
