Hi - I am very new to this forum and have been reading through the posts here to become more familiar with MR's. I fly AA and am currently Platinum.
I fly from AUS to SEA on a weekly basis, leaving Mon and returning Thurs. If I could get more segments, miles, or points, by doing a MR on Sun every week w/o having to pay very much more, I may consider to get up to EXPLT. What is the best way for me to determine if this is something that is feasible?

Great news. If you are already flying AUS-DFW-SEA-DFW-AUS each week, then in 23 weeks you will be EXP. Better news - it will be FREE.

Depending on your tolerance for unnecessary flying, your company's policy regarding unnecessary flying, your company's policy re: extra hotel nights you can choose to add small amounts of miles with a lot of extra hassle by routing through your choice of OAK, SFO, SAN, STL, SJC, LAX between Dallas and Seattle. Coming back is more difficult b/c you are flying left to right across two time zones.

It's easiest if YOU determine your parameters since we don't know all of the factors involved and then read the sticky re: ITA queries. There are over 200 possibilities on AA for Sunday - Thursday travel with two stops each way between AUS and SEA for $400ish. Non-stop on the dates I checked ran $375ish.

Actually, I did not know there was AUS-SEA-AUS until just now. I learned something new. I assumed it was via DFW each way. So, adding DFW is your easiest way to add miles.

You could easily add one more segment each way by going AUS-DFW-PDX-SEA. There are QX flights every 30 minutes or so between PDX and SEA, and they'll earn you 500 EQM each way on AA. That's an extra 1,000 EQM and 2 extra segments each trip for not much extra time. Those two extra segments alone each week for 52 weeks would get you EXP!

What about routing your trip through ORD? You could do the 6:20am AUS-ORD, then the 10:15am ORD-SEA and add 971 miles on your trip there.

Then take the 10:45am SEA-ORD and the 6:10pm ORD-AUS flight for another 971 miles on your way back. There are some connecting flights both ways just in case you wanted to tack on even more.

I was thinking about adding PDX to the mix, but I don't see that AA flies that route. Is that correct?

AA does not fly between SEA and PDX, but QX/AS fly PDX-SEA every half-hour throughout the day. You can earn EQMs, EQPs, and EQSs on all AS/QX flights.

AA definitely flies DFW-PDX. Horizon (the regional carrier for Alaska) flies PDX-SEA, as mentioned in post #4 and in post #7. I put a lot of my Horizon flights into my AA account, they earn full Elite Qualifying Miles, Points, and Segments.

And you get on QX flights between PDX & SEA: Complimentary wine and/or microbrew, Starbucks in the waiting area, newspaper.
