I purchased three first class tickets to Costa Rica for myself, my husband and my mother-in-law. I am *G and I was wondering if we can all access the US club at BOS and CLT for free. Anyone?
Thanks!

I'm under the impression that if you're flying on a purchased (possibly even an upgraded) F class ticket, you are allowed access to the clubs. I may be wrong.

Yes, but only to Europe or (If we win)Shanghai in Envoy.

Ah, I stand corrected. I was aware of the international flights. I for some reason thought CR was covered in that.
You'd think it is! What a crock! It is international!

Where did you earn *G status? The above answers are correct for US *G members (CP, PP, GP), but I'm not sure they are correct for *G status earned at airlines in other countries.
"Lounge Access for International First Class: Customers who present an International First Class boarding pass, regardless of the Star Alliance carrier they fly, have lounge access. They and one guest, are welcome to visit first class lounges or any other members' departure lounges when departing on a Star Alliance flight. Note: AC, BD, OS and SK do not have international first class service."
There are exceptions for your "home" clubs.

Neither does US,NZ,LO... I think a Buisness class BP will work too. Its premium cabin, not specifically First.

Actually, you need a First Class ticket to get into a First Class lounge. A Business class ticket will get you into the Business Class lounge or its equivalent.
The USAirways site (http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/dividendmiles/preferred/gold.aspx) says this:
Also, if you present your Gold Preferred membership card and same-day International tickets, you can access over 600 Star Alliance lounges (including US Airways Clubs) around the world. Travel within North America and the Caribbean is excluded.
Since Costa Rica is within North America, it would be excluded from *G access for US members.
Now, this is interesting, on United's Site (http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,3113,00.html) it says that an international first ticket on US Airways gains a United MP member access to US Airways clubs. If I were you, I'd try it. What have you got to lose?

You can get into US lounge on a US-Canada or Carribean flight if you are *G from ANY other airline...ie UA/AC etc.

That URL and text refers to US Gold Preferred Status, not Star Alliance Gold Status.
OP appears to be *G through United and I agree with PhillyPhlyer40, OP should be able to access USAir clubs via non-USAir *G status on an international ticket.

Hi all,
Thanks for your responses. To clarify; they are purchased F tickets. I am United Prem Exec. I know I can gain access to the clubs with one guest, but where I have two guests and my husband wouldn't be crazy if I chose him over his mother, I was hoping to clarify if holders of First class tickets internationally had access to the lounge and what constitutes international flights. The rules on the website are nebulous at best. Worse comes to worst we can day pass it for mom-in-law.
Thanks again!!!!

You're absolutely right, that's why I posted the UA site information as well. I know UA *G have no problem going to the RCC when on an international iten to Central America. I think she'll be given access.

We understand the policy, but the point is that Costa Rica is NOT North America. It even should not be considered a "Caribbean" destination. It is in Central America. I studied Spanish there one summer so I am very familiar with it.
US Airways just has a bad policy when it comes to its definition of "international."

I agree with you 100%, but for the sake of consistency, does US at least offer free "domestic" upgrades to F when flying to SJO?

Actually, most experts would say that technically North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) continues down through Panama, so, Costa Rica is part of North America.

My hunch is that if they allow you under a legitimate entry rule that they would not quibble about your husband and mother-in-law both being your immediate family travelling together with you and thus they would allow all of you to enter.
