I am new with milage runs and I only did it once last year. I have would like some advice from all the Frequent flyers and those who does milage runs.

I have a trip to Japan coming up. My home airport is Vancouver (YVR). Most of my trips I will be flying is between Vancouver, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I estimate I would make 2 - 3 trans pacific flights a year out of need. I have ANA Platinum member (0 status miles so far 2007), but only basic with Air Canada (but currently have 7000 status miles with Air Canada in 2007). The dates are fixed, leaving April 15 and returning April 21.

I know the rate below is terrible and it isn't a mileage run, but I want to get the biggest bang for the buck.

I am torn between two air fares.

Air Canada (if miles credit to Air Canada)
Cost $C 700
Vancouver to Narita direct flight
Total status miles round trip about 9400
Total miles (including status miles) about 9400
Year to date status miles accumulation after trip: about 17400

ANA (if miles credted to ANA)
Cost $C 1700
Vancouver to San Francisco to Narita
Total status miles about 17000
ANA status bonus about 17000
Online booking bonus about 3000
Total status miles 17000
Total miles (include status) about 37000
Year to date status miles accumulation after trip: about 17000

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.
