Don't know about miles runs but good segment possibilities using SAT/TUL/OKC/HOU thru DFW.

Yes.

However, I think you will find people, including myself, much more helpful if you show that you actually did some work yourself. You have not mentioned anything you have looked for or found, budget, or even what airline you need/want miles with. Read the stickies, do your homework, and then you will find much more help.

Good luck.

The basic rule is that help will only be given to those who don't need it.

No, help is often given much more freely when people see that it is someone that is making an effort and needs help. In the case of the OP, I have no idea if he needs help, I am not even sure what he wants. I know he wants an AA MR, but that is all. Can the OP go overseas, what days can they travel, what is their budget, what have they found so far? All of these are important bits of info.

Had the OP said;

"Hi, I need an AA MR from AUS. I found a few fares and the best I found was AUS-XXX, for $0.05 per mile. Is this a good run? I tried routing it through xxx and xxx and that gave me more miles without major cost? Are there any other routes I missed that might have a better cpm?"

Many people would jump all over that and help this person. This person made an effort and is trying. People would suggest better routes, better destinations, and help quite a bit. It would just take a little effort by the OP first.

Thanks. :)

I found a good RT fare from SEA to AUS for $199 (plus 5% off with Entertainmnet coupons). I'm not sure if it's valid in the reverse direction, but you might be able to connect to good SEA fares and make a good MR out of it all.

Don't let some FTers ruin it for you, it's part of the game. There is some snobbery here on FT, I agree, but again it's part of the game. Many of us are nice and are willing to help, though.

SEA is a good one
you can usually do AUS-ORD-SFO-SEA-SFO-ORD-AUS same day return without a hotel.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the OP to at least make an effort. Everything you need to get started is right here and as was stated earlier, lots of people are gladly willing to help with questions along the way such as "How do I read the routing rules?"

The OP will ultimately be much better served by learning how to create a mileage run rather than having the enablers just give him one.

Remember that old saying...

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man how to fish and he'll eat for life.

Or just sit in a boat and drink beer all day. :D

While this is getting a bit off the original topic of MR possibilities from AUS, I'll reply by saying that everyone on FT should be more sensitive to newcomers. The OP has only 13 posts, and being rude off the bat only serves to portray us as a bunch of elitist snobs. I think we ought to help newcomers who aren't familiar with MR's, etc, and encourage them to slowly learn for themselves. If the OP had 1,000 posts, then that is another story. I'm relatively new to FT myself, having joined a few months ago, and I was taken aback when I joined by how elitist and rude many FTers can be to each other (myself taking the brunt of it many times). It will ultimately lead to a better online community for everyone, IMO.

As for the OP, I think a SEA MR is his best bet. There are cheap fares from SEA that he can use to build a good MR within a MR, and do the great routing the previous poster mentioned to SEA itself.

Cheers

That's fair enough, but some posters put more effort into put-downs when the same work would give a reasonable answer and help.

I agree. Some put-down posts on FT are so long and drawn out, it's amazing the effort the post-bullies must put into them.

As to number of posts, yes, 13 posts points to relative inexperience both with FT much less this forum, but if the OP's old enough to purchase a ticket and do a mileage run, then he/she's also old enough to at least read the stickies first. Indeed, the whole idea behind the stickies is to enable those inexperienced with creating mileage runs to learn the basics. Having known many teachers in my life, I can assure you that the incentive to learn is removed when everything's simply handed out. (Why bother? There's always someone at the Mileage Run forum who will find me a mileage run.)

I also most certainly agree that there's no place for rudeness or put downs amongst eachother. I've seen them here at FT on occasion and they are indeed counter productive. In reviewing the posts on this thread however, I see neither rudeness nor put downs, simply a nicely worded request to 1.) employ the stickies and 2.) provide a bit more information regarding budget, time allowed, etc.

Agreed. I certainly wasn't suggesting that your post was in any way inappropriate but we don't need to look too hard to find clear examples.

I too was not implying that you were rude or using put-downs in your post. But I've seen it done many times to newbie OP's, and for what it's worth, you were polite enough.

Sorry for any confusion here - I was referring to PatrickATX's posts.

I want to thank everyone who responded with relevant and helpful posts.

I'm sorry if I frustrated anyone. Perhaps I should have prefaced my post with something indicating that I have no idea how to do mileage runs at all! I am completely dumb when it comes to them. I've tried to look through the forum tools and don't really understand how to do it.

If you all help me find that link, I promise my next post will be more thought out.

Robert
