Hello:
I have 6 people in venice and we need a celebratory evening? Must be very special and cost does not matter up to $500 per person. Suggestions? It is a 60th birthday for my mom.

One of our favorites is Alle Testiere-- a very small, very fresh seafood restaurant near Santa Maria Formosa (a little hard to find)
It's wonderful and reasonable (by Venice standards)--
must reserve in advance.
The food is also fabulous at Locanda Cipriani if you want to make a trip of it and travel to Torcello.

Cipriani is a Venetian classic and may even get you to your spending limit :D
IMO, the most beautiful restaurant in Venice and one of the best, is the QUADRI in ST.Mark's Square (www.quadrivenice.com).
In October, if you are lucky with the weather and if you get a table by one of the windows overlooking the square, you will see the moon rising behind the campanile.
Otherwise the restaurant of the Hotel Cipriani in the Giudecca Island is also a great choice.
The Testiere has great food, but is extremely small and I would not suggets it for a celebration.

Also-- remember that October is White Truffle season in Italy. Most restaurants in Venice will offer to shave fresh truffles over your pasta for an additional charge.
That will help get you to your limit-- charges vary from €30-€45 per plate
and up.
But if you like truffles it's worth it.
We'll be there in October too. It's a great time to be in Venice- fewer crowds and pleasant weather.
We're in love with that city.

I fully agree with both suggestions^
Alle Testiere for dinner and lunch at Locanda Cipriani (Not to be confused with Cipriani Hotel) are my two favorite dining spots in Venice. Should be great in October.
