Will be traveling to Sicily in October for a conference and will have 5 or so days in addition to the professional obligation to enjoy. First time to Sicily - fourth trip to Italy. Especially interested in recommendations for good restaurants, wine (including wineries and vineyards) and photography. Conference is in Naxos. We know that Taormina is a must see. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Will probably rent a car.

Thought I would bump this thread with the hope that another try might elicit comments.

Thanks

I did a 2 week tour a few years ago. I have traveled to Italy several times before and loved Sicily. Completely different than any other trip. It was much less expensive than other trips to Italy.
October should be a perfect time. If you are really interested in history, you should see the temples at Agrigento and the historic city of Syracusa. The market in Palermo was interesting but it is a few hour drive from the eastern side of the island.
I use the TripAdvisor website for a lot of my travels. You should be able to find some helpful information there on hotels and suggested itineraries.
Have a great trip!

I second the suggestions of Agrigento and Siracusa. I would also add Cefalu as a possibility, with its marvelous cathedral.

Don't miss the Roman villa of Piazza Armerina with the most spectacular mosaic floors.
