I am travelling to Rome in October. I have plenty of points to redeem in Marriott, Hilton or Intercontinental. I have Gold status in Marriott and Hilton and Platinum in Intercontinental. I want to be in Rome city; definitely not on the outskirts. I am looking for your opinions, pro and con, which hotel chain you would pick. I have narrowed my choices down to the Hilton Cavalieri, Marriott Flora(provided rooms become available for redemption) and the Intercontinental or Crowne Plaza. To cut down on morning expenses, executive lounge access or free breakfast would be a swaying factor in my decision. Thanks for your input.

I've stayed at none of those, but based on location my first choice would be the Intercontinental followed by the Marriott Flora. None of the others are anywhere near central. The Intercontinental is pretty central. The Marriott Flora is in a lovely area, but a long walk from most of the major attractions (not that you will mind, being in Rome, and there are various transport methods you can use). The Crowne Plaza and the Hilton would require shuttles and taxis exclusively.

I've stayed at the Cavalieri Hilton quite a few times. Its a great hotel. That being said, its up on a hill a bit outside of the city. They do run a shuttle bus that can take you down into the rat race, so that's great. If you want to be walking distance from the sights, this isn't the place to stay. However if you like to be able to come back to a more quiet setting after spending the day in Rome, this hotel is outstanding. If you do stay there, try to get a room overlooking Rome. Its a great view.

There is also a public transport available from the CP. Take the bus to the city or the metro. It works fine for me.

I quite liked the IC when I stayed there (and loved the location), but it was some years ago.

Then the Hilton is not for you.

I have a similar "problem" although the IC is not an option for me, but Starwood is. We have decided to go with the Marriott Flora.

We have decided to go with the Marriott Flora.
Just out of curiosity, is this a paid or reward stay? The Marriott Gold desk is telling me there is no availability using points until December. Starwood is not an option for me as my wife and I only have 25,000 points each in these programs and thats only enough for 2 nights tops. These hotels do seem to be well placed to see the attractions, though. I have reserved at the IC location to be safe for the time being and am looking forward to any more comments about all the properties.

I'm using points, but made the reservation a year in advance.
