Can anyone tell me when the leaves will be changing colors (or at their peak) in Bayern - specifically Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Hohenschwangau? I realize it's not an exact science, but if they are typically at their peak in mid September or early October, that would be very helpful to know.

Autumn colours will be at their peak in mid October. September is definitely too early.

hm if you are really ingterested in those specific areas, try googeling for that name of the city and "touristinformation" which should lead you to a phone number of the tourist information of that towns and you can then call them to ask. :)
