We have mileage Business class tickets on Delta, non stop from JFK to TXL. Now, my husband feels it is not a great time for him to leave his business for 5 days. I was giving up and then thought that maybe 3 nights could be fun. This is all supposed to happen in februiary. If we don't go the miles go back into our account. for a fee, and we'll use them at another time.
The reason for the Berlin trip in the first place is my husband's parents were both born in Berlin.

Tough one and depens on how much it's worth it for you. Berlin is a great city and deserves more than 3 days of your attention but if you wouldn't go there at a later point with more time, than go for it!

Another consideration is, how quickly will you and/or your spouse replenish your stash of miles? Factor this calculation into the decision, along the time frame for a potential re-scheduled trip.

I have done it several times the other way round. A weekend in New York is always fun. As you have a direct flight and about eight hour travel time, a weekend in Berlin is great!

Berlin is a great city! We have done Houston to Frankfurt leaving late afternoon, arriving early morning, spending night at airport and returning the next day on LH non-stop. Of course, this was a milage run as we needed airmiles for certification. My point is anytime you can get to beautiful Germany, why not? If you wait until you have enough time to really get to know a city in a single trip, you may never travel. Just my opinion.

Spot on advice! We all would like to spend a lot more time at our destinations, but if the options are a short visit or no visit at all, I'd take the short visit any day.

I agree. Why not stay three nights in Berlin. You'll have fuin for sure. Migration in TXL is pretty smooth and fast. TXL is a small airport and you won't miss that much time here. So go for it :)

I must be in the minority, but for me it wouldn't be worth going such a distance for such a short holiday. Not only must you consider all the travel time, but also the possible effects of jet lag (I'm totally useless the entire first day in Europe). On top of all that, I'd hardly think February is the best time for a visit.
If you do chose to go, I hope you have a wonderful trip.

The weather would be my concern. Otherwise, I'd say go for it, but in Feb., walking won't be nearly as enjoyable and would cut into the experience for me as I feel like Berlin in a walking city and you get the most out of it that way.

I have been to Berlin today, 8° Celsius and clear blue sky. But I agree, it is much nicer in summer. Nonetheless: Three nights is (from my perspective) quite a long stay in one city.

Of course you should go. Anyway, you’ll be flying business so I guess the flight would be part of the “holiday”.
For the same reason as you mention (no time for longer trips) I have done in the past (from Europe) New York for 2 nights, Rio de Janeiro for 3 nights and Hong Kong for 2 nights and I’ve enjoyed each and every moment of those trips.

I am trying to change my air plans. If I can get a return for the 3 nights I'm going for it. I may have to change planes but I think it will be worth it. Thanks for all your imput.

make sure that you adapt for the trip to germany before you fly due to jetlag as in going to bed differently and cater in what you might need as sleep on the plane as this would be the biggest impact from my view.

Could your husband go with you for three nights, and you stay for five?
