This quick mileage story is appropriate today.

On 12/31/05, a friend (and a US GP, too) flew from Newark to Singapore on Singapore Air (Star Alliance). He was on the 11:50 PM flight, which took off on-time and flew east (over the Atlantic, etc.). So even though about 98% of that flight occurred in the year 2006, all the miles for that flight still counted toward 2005 miles.

As it turned out, it didn't matter to him whether those miles were counted for 2005 or 2006. But I'm curious if anyone knows if he could have requested those miles to count for 2006. This info may come in handy for anyone who flew out last night.

That's an awesome flight. The longest commercial flight in operation! I'm hoping for one day to find some reason to get on that flight. I live a few minutes from EWR, and I often see the SQ bird coming and going.

That being said, this has been discussed several times recently. Miles post for the year in which the flight was scheduled to leave. So even if a flight is scheduled to depart 11:59 PM on on Dec 31, 2005 and is delayed 2 hours, the miles will still credit to 2005.

Does anyone have any experience redeeming US DMs for this fantastic SQ flight? Especially in C?

Cool! I didn't know that flight was the longest commercial flight in operation.

My friend paid for his flight and sat in coach. He was VERY impressed with the service, comfort, etc.

Given that the aircraft used for this flight has 37in pitch with 7-across seating in an A340 (normally 8), one would expect it to be comfortable.

I think part of the reason for the low density seating is so they can actually carry cargo on the flight (weight limited).

Yup. 18 hours. 25 minutes. Longest in the world.

I have a friend who took it and she said even after such a long time she felt a tiny bit of dissapointment when they were coming in for a landing. There is an on board lounge area, personal TVs with an indescribable on demand selection, and all the gourmet cuisine/cocktails you can eat/drink.
