Any suggestions for a day spa in, near or easy to get to from the Recoleta area? I am sure the Four Seasons will have a very nice one, and I am also sure it will be priced very expensively in US dollars. Looking for a decent place for massage, facial etc.

Four Seasons is quite nice, Mr. Nicolás De Chiara at reception can help you. Tell him Diego Ch gave you his name.
Hyatt is the newest hotel there, you also have the Alvear Palace and Hilton (hilton in puerto madero)

My friend went to one downtown and it got rave reviews and was cheap by US measures like most things. Can't remember the name but they had a fancy website and a few locations including one on San Martin.
It's probably going to be better value than some fancy hotel chain.

That is exactly what I am looking for. Can anyone help with this name, or any similar ones? I am sure the Four Seasons has a fabuluous spa but I can pay fabulous prices to get treatments here. It always irks me to pay US prices in places where the our currency actually has some advantage. I have tried regular web searches and guides and have not come up with so much.

I'll find out for you. I think it was 200 pesos for a full day of the "full treatment" -- whatever they do in those places. :D
Oh, here it is:

One of the upscale malls had a nice day spa. I looked at some prices posted in the window and for an american, they were really inexpensive.
I needed a manicure and my hotel concierge suggested a place around the corner from our hotel (a block from Recoleta) where a terrific mani cost me $3.00.
I'm sorry I don't recall the names, but my point is that any hotel concierge can tell you where to go. Just explain you're not looking for hotel spa's with US prices.
There are many spa's and places with beauty services in BA.
I agree with your philosphy. I don't feel I should pay more because I'm an american.

The hairdresser/ salon on the top floor in Galerias Pacifico is very nice. A male haircut is 37 pesos, and it was the best cut I have had in ages. It was really interesting that they wash the hair after cutting and then styling. A similar quality cut in the US would cost USD 50 or more.
