View Full Version : Hotel close to new Bangkok airport

Bangkok opened a new airport, Suvarnabhumi, in September. Does anyone
know of hotels that are close to the airport and are priced under
US$100, preferably in the $50 range? I am aware of the Novotel right
at the airport, but rooms there are over $150.

Since the airport is so new, it doesn't yet have the dozens of hotels
one would expect to find around a major airport. I am traveling in
Feb.-March; are any hotels about to open in the next two months?

Thanks
DanK

Hi Dank, welcome to FT!

There's another forum with stuff about Thailand:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=624

This thread has some advice about hotels around the new airport:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=613814

(it starts off on overnighting at the airport and then moves on to discuss hotels..)
You could add a further query there if there's nothing that meets your exact criteria.

The new airport is all nice and gleaming, but I miss the buzz of the old one!
Good luck...

I stayed at the Radisson which is about a 20 min. taxi ride at midnight and 5 AM. It costs less than $60 if booked and paid through Asia Travel.

I just posted on this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=637637) with updated info on the Sanawan Palace, Grand Inn Come, Avana, and Novotel Bangna. All are hotels or inns reasonably close to the airport. The Sananwan will pick you up and rive you back (for a fee).

Several places are now showing up at Asiatravel that are "near" Suvarnabhumi, including the Grand Inn Come for THB1690, prepay.

Another place that I don't think was previously mentioned in any of the associated threads is the Floraville Serviced Apartments, at the junction of Srinakarin and Pattanakarn Roads, approx Lat 13.735346, Lon 100.647235 for you Google Earth fans.

(I'm continuing the discussion in this thread since the title is more intuitive than some of the others.)

I wish more little guesthouses that were capable of being found by generic taxi drivers were available. Paying THB500 for transport to a guesthouse that costs < THB500 seems kinda weird.

I can almost guarantee there are a lot of small hotels, guest houses, serviced apartments (that rent by the night) on On-Nut Rd. (Sukhumvit Soi 77), Phatana Karn Rd.(turns into Petchaburi Rd.) Rama 9, Ramkamhaeng Rd. but these will be challenging to find on the internet, and wouldn't be marketed as "airport hotels". I'll be out in the Rama 9/Ramkamhaeng Rd. area this week (right where the motorway turns into a tollway, the first toll-booth in-bound) so will look for some possibilites. Another alternative would be to look to the east along both the Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway (Rt. 7, north of the airport) and the Bang Na Trat Road (Rt. 34 south of the airport).

I should add that if you are staying at one of these hotels, the hotel may have to call a taxi for you to go back to the airport. Please be aware that there is a 20 baht service charge for radio-dispatched taxis and that this charge is paid over and above the fare on the meter.

The earlier recommendation of Radisson SAS is good, as it's directly on the Chonburi/Rama9 tollway and will get you to the airport in no time. If you can get it for $60, that's great.

Adding another hotel touted as close in another thread:
Ibis Huamark (http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/6297/pop_situation.shtml), which appears to be around Lat 13.750755, Lon 100.607456, though it could be the next soi up. Nice, sparse traffic on the overhead imagery.

I liked one review that said something like, "...both unfinished and worn out at the same time."

~20 minutes by taxi, across the street from a huge mall (grocery stores / restaurants galore), small rooms, and it'll look pretty sad in a few years .... but for now, ~800-1000bt for noncancellable rate (for the small price difference, it would be worth it to take the superior room) .... ~150-250bt for the taxi. Taxi drivers didn't seem to have a problem finding it, even though we only had the address written in English.

Depending on your arrival and departure times, I've landed during mid day as well as late evening, and with carry on bags, time from door opening to walking into hotel lobby= one hr. - this is for Sukhumvit hotels.

Suggestion for Radisson SAS on Rama IX good choice. It is less than B$150 ride, should take 10-15 minutes at night from new airport.

FWIW, for the IBIS Huamark there is a pier (Stop #9, The Mall 3 pier) for the Khlong San Saeb boats at the end of the soi. Boats moving from right to left will take you into the city.

For the Radisson you are less than 1 mile (2 Km) from lower Sukhumvit Road.

There is a hotel, in the Fortune Complex, http://www.fortunehotel.com/ near the Radisson, that looks pretty nice. It's at the intersection of Rama 9 and Ratchadapisek Road, and is atop the Rama 9 stop on the subway.

I just came back from a conference in Chiang Mai. Most of our group had to overnight in Bangkok, so we all compared notes. One direction we stayed at the Rama Gardens, near the old airport. It only took 35 minutes, both late at night and mid day on the return and was very good as always with a memorable breakfast. Going the other direction, we booked at the Grand Inn Come, since it was only 5-10 minutes from the airport. But unless that closeness is really important to you, I couldn't recommend it. While the people meeting us at the airport were very courteous and prompt, the hotel itself was not comfortable or pleasant. It was very dark in the halls, and the bed so hard as to be un-sleepable. There was a nice view of the airport, but between that and the busy street outside, it was very noisy--didn't seem to have any sound insulation. So our reason for booking there, needing a good night's sleep, didn't happen. One of our friends, who stayed there one direction, and the Avana the other direction, said that the Avana is much nicer and cheaper as well, but more like 20 minutes ride. She agreed with us that she wouldn't stay at the GIC again. Other friends were happy with the airport Novotel, and said that they were able to book it at the hotel website for about $120. Will poll the others who stayed at other places and post their opinions later.

Maybe try "13 coins" on rama 9 for a room? Think they should have some decent rates too.

Thanks to your suggestion, I'm trying it on a trip through in August. Thanks for the tip! Have you stayed here before?
