View Full Version : Alitalia BK or does their customer service stink?

In May, my wife and I were denied boarding an Alitalia flight, IAD to Milan. Along with 9 others, we were promised in writing 600 euros each. Understandably they did not have that much cash laying around IAD, or Milan or FCO. We did get a two part voucher and a separate one paragraph promise to pay, signed by the gate agent.

So after 6 months of dealing with customer service in NY no money. Complaints filed everwhere. No action. So the talk of Alitalia bankruptcy might make sense and explain why they are not paying these notes.

Any insights would be appreciated.

As an aside, my theory is that that Alitalia overbooked because our trip to Italy was on 2 carriers (United+Alitalia) and we could not reserve seats on a multi-carrier trip. Had to reserve once we got to Dulles and of course, Alitalia had sold out the flight. No attempt was made to entice passengers already on the plane with a voucher to travel later, so we could get on.
