I am looking for recent reviews to the Goodwood Park, Elizabeth and the Robertson Quay Hotels.

Anyone have recent experience with these places? I have five nights I have to fill and am looking for something nice that will cost less than the Conrad.

Ideal budget under 125 US a night.

If you are looking for a good rate, I would suggest checking the rates at the IC. Rates are well under US$125 per night especialy on weekends.
The Royal Plaza on Scotts might have some good re-opening deals in januari after their renovation finishes.
Another option would be the York Hotel.

I stayed at Roberson Quay, a small hotel with small room and stand-only shower room. But I do like this hotel because of its quiet location. Cheap too.

I also stayed at Royal Plaza on Scotts, a fine hotel with regular size room. Location wise, excellent. I paid around US$100 per it during the weekend.

I also stayed at The Oriental. The best, compared to the others. Good service but too expensive.

There is another one I like is Golden Landmark. Good size bed and room. I believe I paid around USD60 per night for it. There is a bugis MRT station close by.

If it is just me, I would stay at Roberson Quay. If I am on business, I would stay at the Oriental or Excelsior. If I am with the family, I would stay at Royal Plaza on Scotts.

i stayed at the elizabeth in march. (it's often discounted on srshotels.com web site, by the way).

the room was oddly shaped but otherwise, the hotel was nice and while not on orchard or scott, was like 2 blocks from there, down a hill.

I would have no qualms about staying there.

during that trip i also stayed at hotel1929, which is cheaper. the rooms are small but the hotel is cute. It's in chinatown.

there's more on both hotels if you search the forum and don't rule out bidding on priceline which regularly offers 4 or 5 star singapore hotels at discounts. see biddingfortravel.com. some of the deals are incredible, but they are spotty (depends on whether there are big conventions or not in singapore).

Just to give some more information. I am looking at Feb 25 to March 2 for these stays. Basically Sunday to Friday.

Its my first trip down and the first two nights on the weekend are at the Conrad. But I cant pay those rates during the week.

I have tried priceline for a 5 star at 75, 85, and 95 already. all failed.

first i hope you are going for work, because that's way too much time to spend in singapore for a holiday. If you want to go there for a holiday, there are great places to go from singapore that are inexpensive including bali, thailand, borneo(malaysia), and places in malaysia. see airasia among other sites, and note that some flights (but not all) may be cheaper from nearby malaysia.

but there are long reviews of all these hotels in trip advisor.
i

finally you could have problems with priceline trying to book that many days in a row. You may be better off making bids for two separate package of nights.

I completely disagree with that statement, so YMMV.
I can think of a ton of cool things to do off the top of my head in Singapore--if you are into zoos and nature, the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Jurong Bird and Reptile Parks, and other nature reserves are great.
If you're a foodie, there are few places to get such a varied, cheap, and authentic taste of Asian food where it's completely safe to eat what you want, where you want.
Shopping is quite good.
Weather, while hot, usually offers you several hours of dry sunshine per day.
Nightlife is surprisingly good!
Day trip into Johor or Batam for some "international" flair.....
And more.

However, if it's your ONLY trip to Asia in your lifetime, then yes, I do agree to try some other parts of Asia that are more exotic (but also less clean, safe, reliable, etc). Singapore can be too "easy" and sterile--but for some, it's a nice intro to Asia.
But 5 days in Singapore? Easy! I've spent more several times, and always enjoy going back.

As for hotels, I second the recommendation of the Inter-Continental: Often there are room rates of S$160 for basic rooms, and the location is great, just above the Bugis subway stop, near good food and shopping too.

Have a great time on your trip!

Regarding hotels, you might consider Traders, a division of Shangri-la. I have stayed there many times and always found it very friendly and convenient to good food, shopping, tranportation, etc.

Have a great time in a wonderful city.:)

I am looking for recent reviews to the Goodwood Park, Elizabeth and the Robertson Quay Hotels.
Goodwood Park is an old colonial five-star hotel reminescent of the Raffles without the tourists, and in a completely different league from Elizabeth and Robertson Quay, which are both somewhat musty, cheapish 3-4 stars. Do watch out, though, that the Goodwood Park's new wing is rather anonymous -- you need to go for the old wing if you're looking for character.

I have realized this about Goodwood Park. They are asking over 200 SGD the nights I need. Looks like i'm going to robertson quay for the neighborhood of 50US a night.
If I were to pay the 200+ SGD a night I'd go for the IC at 230 and get points I'd want to use again. Although I've seen pics of the rooms at Goodwood Park and that is why I'd like to try it.

I used to like the Robertson Quay Hotel but not anymore. It has slipped - rooms are now old and musty (in addition to small, which they were before). I used to stay here sometimes on arriving late at night when just wanting a bed but even for that I find it overpriced. It certainly is not a '3 to 4 star hotel'. Probably about 2 now.

I like Royal Plaza on Scotts, located at Scotts and Orchard (right near the Mariott and CK Tangs). Great location, nice service..

Apparently they are closed for reservations until Jan 07, but when they were open in the past they had reasonable rates ~120 USD. I hope their new rates don't sky rocket.

The Allson is decent at best--as of last year, it hadn't been renewed for ages. If that is the cheapest, you'll survive, but it's nothing special. Best thing about the Allson? The AMAZING Japanese restaurant downstairs--in fact, nearly the entire staff and customer base is all Japanese.

Its quoting at ~ 110 all in ; vs scotts at 129 + the fees/taxes etc...(which seem to add up to closer to 150 )..

How close is the Scott's actually to the MRT...

If you mean the Royal Plaza (Scotts is the name of the entire stretch of the street), it is probably 400m from the lobby to the Orchard MRT station. Out the door, head right to Isetan, down one level to MRT underpass, walk underneath Orchard Road to MRT station.

Maybe slightly off topic, but is the Royal Plaza at Scott's worth SGD 260/night for a premier room (off asiabest)? Comments?

Sorry, I have only been inside the lobby which is quite nice. I do not know anything about the rooms.

Absolutely. I'm staying there right now, typing this from my room (though, not on the Premier level.) The hotel is immaculate. All of the staff are fantastic from the front desk to the concierge to the maids to laundry to the restaurant. Try to get a room with the breakfast included -- it's worth the extra expense. It's the best Western breakfast buffet I've had in Asia (and I'll have it again in about 30 minutes). The rooms are quite large by Asian standards, and even pretty generous compared to some American hotels. The desk I'm typing this on is more than ample. Bathrooms are great.

From the outside, the hotel isn't much to look at, but who cares. The lobby is fantastic and at night they light up the 300 candles in the sculpture and a woman plays soft piano music live. And they have some kind of perfume piped into the lobby air conditioning so that when you get back to your hotel after a hot Singapore day it's the most marvelous welcoming atmosphere.

A few minor caveats:

1. The hotel is still under renovation, so there's a chance you'll hear construction noises from both inside and outside from 8:30am-8:30pm seven days a week. The management includes a little note on your end table apologizing for this.

2. Taxis can't find this place. Of the six times I've tried, none of the cabbies knew where it was. Part of the problem could be the afore-mentioned renovation, so there is no sign on the front of the building. Also, something about the word "Royal" in the name convinces them it's on Nathan Road instead of Scotts. I've finally given up and instead tell them to take me to the Hyatt, which is across the street, and then I just use the pedestrian overpass to get to the Royal Plaza.

I'm paying about US$194/night for a basic room (booked through Expedia, so no Air France miles :( ) which includes breakfast. Your rate for a premier room sounds pretty good, too. If I come through Singapore again, I will ABSOLUTELY stay here. Great value.

I ended up booking the HI Atrium at 165 including breakfast - its a long stay so the diff had to be accounted for ;)
