Hi guys,

Anyone have any idea how to get a cheap ticket from AKL-SYD? I need to travel on the morning of the 23rd of Decemeber, and I've gone through all the multi-search websites (kayka, itasoftware, etc...) with no luck (plus there arent many LCCs in the region). The cheapest I can find (but am having trouble booking) is a 5:45 QA codeshare with LAN. Other than that I'm looking at $600 AU.

as discussed here recently, it is doubtful you will find anything reasonably priced this close to the holidays for travel the day before Christmas Eve :(

Ya, thats what I figured. Too bad I didnt plan ahead, haha. Just hoping for someone with some inside knowledge of a good deal or lesser-known way of travelling between the two cities. Thanks anwyay.

If you can get down to Christchurch, then Jetstar www.jetstar.com will get you back to SYD for $388.67 NZD (Circa $340 AUD). It's a decent hike from AKL though.

Similar option (and Hike) from Dunedin on Freedom Air (www.freedomair.co.nz) $NZ319.

Both of these involve decent amounts of travel from Auckland.

Final option that you may not know about is Pacific Blue www.pacificblue.com $569NZ AKL-SYD via the Gold Coast.

If you can travel on the 24th rather than the 23rd, NZ is $220US for AKL-SYD.

Alternatively, on the 23rd, AKL-MEL is $219. That probably doesn't help too much since you'd still have to find a way to get from MEL to SYD, but it's still cheaper than the AUD 600 fares.

Okay, so it looks like its just too late to get anything cheap, just need to decide which option is the best.

At www.bestflights.com.au you can book a trip for $596 AU to Sydney flying on Air New Zealand at either 7:00am or 9:00am.

Like what schmare said, if you can travel on the 24th, you can fly for $158 AU on LAN Chile.
