View Full Version : Where to buy an iPod in Singapore?

The title pretty much says it all.

There was a promotion at Changi on June 3rd, but my flight left a bit too early to stop in for shopping. Is there anyplace at the airport that sells iPods on a regular basis?

Where else in Singapore? Is there an Apple Store on Orchard Road, maybe at the Paragon or Ngee Ann City? IIRC, I saw one there.

How much will the "standard," such as there is one, iPod with music and good memory capacity but no need for pics or video, run me?

How does that compare to the US?

If I wanted to buy it in the US, could I get any adapters I might need for essentially permanent use in SE Asia (Thailand)?

For the record, I'm looking for the real McCoy, not other MP3 players.

Applecentre at Wheelock Place, corner of Orchard and Scotts (above Borders). Prices: http://store.apple.com/1800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/singaporestore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=ipod&mco=A6951E92

US plugs work in Thailand and you don't need an adapter.

Thanks! ^ Looks like prices are pretty close to what's standard in the US, so I'll get it in Singapore, where Mr. Megatop can choose the one he wants in his Christmas stocking.

You should also try the mustafa centre. That's where I got mine!

Is the Mustafa center one big store with departments, or is it more like a common area with lots of separate little stalls as in Seoul's digital city (in which case I'd appreciate a recommendation for a specific vendor)?

Will the Mustafa center have first-line legitimate goods? What difference will there be between Mustafa and the Apple Store, in terms of product quality, selection, price, etc.?

Thanks for your input.

Don't know much about the selection vs. the Apple store (which is now called the Epicentre, but still sells Apple: http://www.applecentreorchard.com/) at Wheelock Place, but the Mustafa Centre is one big store (http://www.mustafa.com.sg). They will certainly have legitimate goods.

Aren't prices on Apple products pretty much the same everywhere (at least within a country), though? That was my impression.

Mustafa is a single department store. The majority of the electrical equipment (iPods etc) is on the ground floor but the computer equipment is downstairs.

The price you see is the price you pay so you should not be ripped off like you could do in the Sim Lim centre where all of the vendors are trying to maximise profits.

Thanks MovieMan and refluxboy. We have other shopping to do around Orchard Road, so the Apple store or whatever it's called at Wheelock Place is probably where I'll go. OTOH, I've heard a lot about Mustafa Center, and it may be worth a visit for the experience. Our first tour of Little India did not leave a favorable impression (among other things, it was the one district of Singapore that managed to seem dirty like other cities), but we're willing to give it another go.
