Does anyone have recommendations on budget accommodations in Sardinia? I am planning to visit the island in late may 2007, covering Cagliari, Olbia and the Emerald Coast. Advice on train travel in Sardinia is also truly appreciated.

Was there for a short period last christmas.

I stayed at Hostal de l'Alguer, near Alghero (in Fertilia).

From my experience, you're better off renting a car and driving around yourself. I went in a group of 3 and we rented a car from Alghero airport and drove down the west coast to Oristano. IIRC, there aren't many train services on the island and the bus service is limited.

BTW, if you go to Alghero, try the pizza at Casablancas.
