I'm interested in what seems like a gem of a little boutique hotel, which seems like a new concept to Bangkok. It's called Luxx and is just a few minutes walk apparently to the nightlife and shopping, on a quieter street just perpendicular to Silom Road.
Nice, clear and modern decor, free wireless and generous breakfast as well.
Prices are under US$100 all-in for the "compact" rooms and just over US$100 for the "Studio," which apparently is a good-sized 34 sq. m (about 350 sq feet?).
Any experiences with this? The website is impressive, but we've seen places with impressive websites that are nothing but an exercise in PhotoShop mastery.

The title caught my eye as I like The Metropolitan but always looking for the newest/latest boutique hotels.
The reviews and pictures on Tripadvisor didn't exactly thrill me. Check it out.
Another boutique hotel just off Silom Road behind Bangkok Bank headquarters is the Silom Serene. Christmastime 2003 the rates were approx US $60 for single and US $ 90 for double. Excellent groundfloor restaurant and very clean overall. Favored by Japanese more than other nationalities, seemed to me at the time.

Yeah, I usually read reviews too, but normally look for show-stopper type of complaints, of which there seemed to be none, so i am booked. :)

Just arrived at this hotel. I had booked the Studio room (34 sq. m.) but was given the top floor room 15 suite (50++ sq. m.) and it is quite good. Water didn't work really well in the shower at first, but the very friendly front desk concierge guy took care of it within minutes.
The place is very cozy, sleek and clean and very close to all the action, but on a quiet side street. Air conditioning is blasting cold air in a very hot 35 degree Celsius Bangkok, which is always great. Breakfast will be served in-room or in the "mess hall" and seems like a very full American breakfast.
Oh, free and fast wireless too. ^
Not bad for $106 all-in per night.

Just arrived at this hotel. Sounds very attractive.
Thanks, UnitedSkies, for that report.
Please write more (whenever you return from going out and having fun.) ;)
Especially valuable would be information and your opinions about the neighborhood right around that hotel.

So, I'm back from BKK and extremely pleased with my stay. The hotel is located about a minute walk from a quieter stretch of Silom Road. Once you get to that intersection (Silom Road and Deccho Road), it's about a 10 minute walk east to the night markets and bars of the Patpong area and about the same to the nearest Metro and Skytrain lines.
The area appears pretty safe, and is a mix of residential and commercial. However, several times, cab drivers do not know where Deccho Road is (it's a short, small road) and have a hard time finding it. My remedy for that is just to tell them to go to the Sofitel Silom hotel, which is right around the corner. It's a very short walk from the Sofitel to the LUXX hotel.
Definitely will stay at the LUXX again the next time I'm in Bangkok!

I am looking at staying at the Luxx for 6 nights in June. It looks like a neat hotel, but I don't know about the location compared to other hotels in BKK. Does anyone have a comparison between the Luxx and the Davis? Tripadvsior seems to really like the Davis, but both hotels look pretty neat.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

the davis has a nice location of being in the centre of town, and just a kilometre into sukhumvit soi 24. Luxx is developing..i dont think it will be long before Luxx becomes the next "must staY" hotel..

In looking a photo on Google earth, we choose the Luxx location because it is a little closer to the river - I am assuming thats good - and also very close to the SkyTrain stop. It looks like a neat hotel and they have a pretty good special at the moment. One of their Compact L (24 sq meters) for 6009THB/2 nights with breakfast. I may upgrade to the Studio which is 34 sq meters for 7009THB/2 nights just because we will be there for 6 nights and 24 sq meters might get a little cramped.

A very nice German run hotel is also Livingstone's on soi 33.
Not as pricey, with an excellent restaurant around a big pool.

For 100$ you get a junior suite with Jacuzzi.
Incl. breakfast and internet access.

Well, I returned from the Luxx. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but would try something else if I were to travel to Bangkok again. I wrote a review on Tripadvisor for those who are interested. The link is here (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g293916-d604936-r8140272-Luxx-Bangkok.html).
