Hey kids. I am currently in Florence, Italy on business and need a bit of help possibly finding a train or flight from Florence (Firenze) to Brussels/Bruxelles Tuesday evening Florence time. I am supposed to return to NYC tomorrow (Friday afternoon). I have a vacation flight from NYC to Brussels scheduled for Tuesday Nov. 21st evening and would arrive around 10am Wednesday morning Brussels time. I'm looking for something similar from Florence. I would use my personally purchased Delta ticket to return home to NYC from Brussels on November 26th.

This arose because there is still a lot to learn here and they wouldn't mind having me. The deciding factor is if I can afford the ticket (train or air) between the two cities. I need to make the decision tonight (I'm 6 hours ahead of NYC & it's 8:50pm here).

Would any of you mind weighing in on some options or with some help or even a bread crumb path as to how to search for transport between the two cities? What is the major train station in Brussels or in Florence, for instance?

It's greatly appreciated...

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, you have a ticket from New York to Brussels round trip; you don't want to use the outbound because you are already in Florence, but you want to use the return. Is that correct?

Assuming that is correct, there's a problem with the plan. Namely if you don't show up for your NYC-Brussels flight on the 21st, the airline will cancel your return.

In any case, here's some help with what you were originally asking.

Check www.whichbudget.com to see which discount airlines fly between which cities.

For trains - check the Deutsch Bahn website at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?ld=212.19&newrequest=yes&

(I hope that's the link to the search page in English.), For station names, you'll get a dropdown list. I haven't traveled from Florence by train in a while, but I think the main station is listed as SMN. And in Brussels it's either Midi or the airport BRU station. But definitely get a second/official opinion on the station names!

hope that helps

Better still for flight routes, availability AND price go to Skyscanner (http://www.skyscanner.net)
