Already tried in the general section - w/o success. Can you recommend some sight seeing off the beaten track in Hiroshima and Beppu?
We will be there for a couple of days in July.
Thanx in advance.

In Beppu, try a visit to the Takegawara onsen. It's an indoor hot spring where you can get buried up to your neck in geothermally-heated sand, and makes for a unique experience. Afterward, you hop into a more traditional hot spring bath. It's a very relaxing and unique experience.
Also, a visit to the nearby monkey park is worthwhile (take a taxi). There are 3 tribes of monkeys that live in the hills. Each comes down into the park at a separate designated time each day to be fed. You walk freely among hundreds of wild monkeys, which is a little disconcerning at first, but they're not dangerous unless you tease them.
However, Beppu in general is in a bit of a decline. With the Japanese economy as it is, many of the tourist attractions are almost devoid of people and feel like ghost towns. Another thing about Beppu is that it gets virtually no English-speaking tourists (unlike Hiroshima), so it's a bit more difficult to get around if you don't speak Japanese. But, if this doesn't bother you, it can provide some interesting experiences.
