Huh? I was told that JAL had already joined? I even called BA pre-flight to make sure my flight (last week) would count towards elite on BA?!?!
I just checked the BA website, but my flight hasn't posted yet. I better not get screwed on this.

You can earn BA miles on JAL but they are not part of Oneworld.

I'm not much concerned about the miles. I'm worried that the flight won't give me Executive Club points for Gold renewal. This is so typical of EC staff. They consistently give out inconsistent information.

In their press release of March 14, they just say:
(a) JAL is currently considering the merits and demerits of continuing with bilateral alliances or joining a global, multilateral alliance.

weighing the merits may all be well and good, but they could be left at the gate if they don't move soon. i know that these alliances have definitely exposed me to airlines that i may never have investigated before. in most cases, i might actually use them again.

I agree JAL should move toward full participation in oneworld. (Or perhaps a dif alliance - although oneworld would seem to prove easier and less costly.) It is very easy for me to use ANA with their UA connection. If JAL had were a true oneworld member I would fly them more.
I imagine the other oneworlders would also embrace the connections JAL would provide.
